A mid 18th century brass barrelled flintlock blunderbuss, by W Emms of Oxford, 30” overall, swamped 2 stage barrel 15”, with London proofs and engraved “W - Emms Oxford”; signed line engraved rounded lock having swan neck cock and unbridled frizzen; plain walnut fullstock with high comb to butt and carved apron around the barrel tang; brass mounts comprise engraved butt plate tang, trigger guard and flat trophy of arms sideplate, large escutcheon with floral finial, and baluster ramrod pipes; horn tipped wooden ramrod having iron worm. Good Working Order and Clean Condition (traces of old repair to the stock below the lock). Plate 40

A scarce .62” officer’s privately purchased Baker flintlock rifle, 46”, browned twist barrel 30”, London proved (stamped Gill on underside). Twin leaf rearsights, sharp rifling, bayonet bar on muzzle. Fullstocked, brass furniture, patch box engraved with strung bugle and Britannia shield centred trophy, buttcap tang and trigger guard bow both trophy engraved. Steel sling swivels and ramrod, chequered small and fore, carved cheekpiece, shield shaped silver escutcheon engraved with owner’s initials PHF. Good Working Order and Condition, barrel bore excellent (lock some steel parts restored). Plate 42

An interesting and unusual military bandsman’s sword c 1835, broad spatulate blade 20”, with twin and single fullers, heavy brass hilt, the straight crossguard with inset oak wreath panels and ornamental finials, the panelled grip with trophy of fasces and instruments over “6” (probably The 6th (Royal First Warwickshire) Regiment) over rosette of instruments on each side, lion’s head pommel with ring, see Wilkinson “British Military Bayonets” p10 for a similar pattern hilt to the 52nd Light Infantry. Good Condition (dark patina overall) Plate 20

A naval officer’s sword for Commanders and above, c 1805-25, straight fullered blade 32”, etched, on blued and gilt for half its length with crowned 1801-16 Royal Arms and supporters, fouled anchor and flourishes on one side, and on the other with crowned GR cypher, trophy and flourishes, regulation copper gilt stirrup hilt, langets bearing fouled anchor, facetted knucklebow, flattened lion’s head pommel and facetted backstrap, wirebound ivory grip, in its black leather scabbard with gilt brass locket (ring missing), centre band with ring, and chape, the locket engraved “G Banks Plymouth Dock” in oval. Good Condition for age, the hilt and mounts retaining approximately 20% blueing/gilding (rust pitting patches to blade, some wear to hilt and scabbard). Plate 20
