Eastcott was granted a handicap of three goals by the Meadow Brook combination, but the Anglo-Americans were not forced to call upon their opponents by the margin of a single goal playing on the flat. Meadow Brook defaulted to Eastcott in the final of the Philadelphia tournament because of the tragic death of their fellow member, C C Rumsey.
