Cobble Esqr. to be run for free over the Course at Newbridge in the county of Dublin on the 3d. of Janry 1759 & Won by Rost Tynte Esqr. by Mare, Poor Suke", (circa 13.5oz) scratch weight 14:3. 15cm high Provenance: Miss Violet Tyne, Tynte Park, Co. Wicklow. Sweeney points out that the piece proves the existence of winter racing in Ireland, the racing calendars confined themselves to starting in the spring and ending in the autumn. Although the Kaiser himself clearly enjoyed the visit immensely and was himself very popular in the city, his friendship with the Sultan was to cause considerable political difficulties, particularly with Russia.
