BOTTI, FRANCESCOFlorenz 1640 - 1711Titel: Judith enthauptet Holofernes. Technik: Öl auf Leinwand. Montierung: Doubliert. Maße: 73 x 87cm. Rahmen/Sockel: Rahmen. Gutachten:F. Berti, Florenz, 2016.Provenienz:Privatbesitz, Italien. Originale Altes Testament Malerei Mord BOTTI, FRANCESCOFlorence 1640 - 1711Title: Judith Beheads Holofernes. Technique: Oil on canvas. Mounting: Relined. Measurement: 73 x 87cm. Frame/Pedestal: Framed. Certificate:F. Berti, Florence, 2016.Provenance:Private ownership, Italy.Loose brushstrokes and a sumptuous style characterise this remarkably charming composition by Francesco Botti, a renowned master among the Florentine painters of the second half of the 17th century. Having worked in the workshop of Simone Pignoni and studied similar representations by the master, Botti tried his hand at this subject, which he repeated several times in the course of his career. The composition presented here, similar to the others known but in landscape format, depicts the moment of victory of the biblical heroine as she holds aloft the macabre trophy, the head of Holofernes. The landscape format enlarges the scenic space and introduces the third figure, the maid Abra.Explanations to the Catalogue
