A fine polo trophy for The Pringle Challenge Shield competed for between 1922 and 1939 at the Goriajan Club on the Koomtai Tea Estate, Assam, India,hallmarked Atkins Brothers, Sheffield, 1922, the large shield measuring 45 by 34cm. inscribed THE PRINGLE CHALLENGE SHIELD, GORIAJAN, 1922, with floral decoration and set on an ebonised wooden shield-shaped base with easel support, and set with 18 plaques, mostly bearing full silver hallmarks, each inscribed with details of the annual winning polo team, the plaques for 1933 & 1939 further inscribed DHUNSIRI and NAZIRA CLUB respectively, suggesting the competition was no longer exclusively held at the Goriajan Club, overall 60 by 48cm., good condition, minor scuffs and scratches to ebonised base The Goriajan Club was located in Assam at Sankala Gaon on the Koomtai Tea Estate with polo first played there sometime between 1897 and 1914. The Pringle family was originally from the Carriber Estate in West Lothian, Scotland. Extensive family research including the connections with India tea plantations and the Goriajan Club can be found published on the website www.koi-hai.com.

FAIRCLOUGHLiverpool won their first major trophy under Bob Paisley by narrowly winning the League title after heated competition from Dave Sexton's Queen's Park Rangers. In a dramatic climax to the season, Liverpool needed to either win or secure a low-scoring draw against relegation-threatened Wolverhampton Wanderers. With 14 minutes left for play and despite constant pressure in the second half, the Reds trailed to a Steve Kindon strike for Wolves. The title was slipping away from Liverpool but three late goals from Kevin Keegan, John Toshack and Ray Kennedy took the Championship trophy away from Loftus Road to Anfield. Ahmad Shah Qajar with his trophy, commemorative print circulated in Europe ahead of the Shah's visit to Paris in 1922 [Germany, probably 1921-22] single photographic print of the Shah with his trophy leopard, mounted to card bearing printed coat of arms and hand-coloured “Frankreich” (France), in modern card mount, 190 by 210 mm.; framed and glazed The boy-king Ahmad Shah Qajar was the last Qajar Shah to rule Iran. He was overthrown less than 5 years after this photograph was taken by Reza Khan, then Minister of Defence, who crowned himself Shah and founded the Pahlavi Dynasty. This print was probably commissioned by the Qajar ministers themselves for circulation around Europe ahead of the Shah's visit to Paris in 1922.

GARROS, VEDRINES & KIMMERLING: Rare multiple signed page by three legendary Pioneer Aviators. Although for different reasons, all died in air crashes. Comprising Roland Garros (1888-1918) French Aviation Pioneer and Fighter Pilot of World War I. Garros died at the very early age of 29 when he was shot down by a German fighter pilot only a month before the end of the war; Jules Védrines (1881-1919) French Pioneer Aviator, the first to fly at more than 100 mph. Winner of the Gordon Bennett Trophy race, 1912. Autographs of Védrines are rare as a result of his untimely death at the age of 37 in an air crash, & Albert Kimmerling (1882-1912) French Pioneer Aviator who died at the very early age of 29 in a crash while test flying. One page, 8vo, removed from an autograph album, individually signed by the three pilots, with written text in the hand of Védrines, stating `Souvenir of a superb travel over-flying the English capital, on 3 / 7 / 1911´. Also signed by René Vidart (1890-1928) French Pionner Aviator, who died at the early age of 38, adding alongside `Souvenir of a bird of France´. Bearing to the verso four signatures by British famous men, including the actors Henry Ainley and Norman Forbes Robertson. Small overall age tone with small foxing to borders, otherwise G £200-300Védrines refers to the European circuit flight Calais - London. Védrines won the race, Vidart was second, Kimmering fourth and Garros fifth.
