BLOTELINGH, Abraham (1640-1690). (The "Benningh Cannons"). 1671 (dated in the plate). Engr. after A. v.d. Velde, printed on two conjoined leaves. 595 x 750 mm. Engr. caption in banner in top margin and below cannons in lower margin. (Margins trimmed and in need of repair (various splits and some chips in places), slightly browned (espec. margins)). NOTE:Two guns manufactured by the Albert Benningk or Benningh foundry in Lübeck and presented to the States General in 1669 as a gift for the prompt payment of the guns supplied by him. Both guns are richly decorated with allegorical scenes related to the Republic's battle at sea. On the guns the coats of arms and names of the delegates in charge of the military equipment: Johan Eleman and Gerard Hasselaer. At the top a large allegorical weapon trophy with the Dutch Lion flanked by Minerva, Hercules and Neptune. - FMH 2299; Atlas van Stolk 2394; Hollstein Dutch 120.

PORTMEIRION POTTERY LIMITED EDITION REPLICA OF THE F.A. CUP, a scale replica of the Football Association Challenge Cup, modelled by Fred Hackney of Brunswick Ceramics Services, Stoke-on-Trent, with certificate No.19 of 500, to commemorate the 1980 F.A.Cup final between West Ham United and Arsenal, played at Wembley on May 10th 1980, West Ham won the cup by one goal to nil, separate base and cover, platinum lustre glaze with bronze coloured glaze internally, height 66cm (Note: after lengthy contract negotiations Portmeirion were given permission by F.A. Secretary Ted Croker to produce these replicas in 1979, the modeller Fred Hackney inspected the trophy at Highbury, Arsenal (who were holders at the time), unfortunately the production costs including the use of a platinum glaze proved prohibitive to the manufacturer and the replica never went into full commercial production, it is estimated that less and two hundred were produced before the project was abandoned in 1980) (condition: some nibbles on the inner rim of lid and base, some of lustre rubbed and scratched especially on the top side of the bottom segment)
