SOUTHAMPTON MEDAL 1953 Medal awarded to Jack McDonald of Southampton , Football Combination Cup Competition, Runners up 1952-53. Southampton purchased Jack McDonald from Fulham in 1952 and initially he was successful in their first team, but he lost form and played most of the season in the reserves winning this medal in the process. During his time at Southampton, Jack made 16 first team appearances scoring four goals. The medal, with case, has The Football Combination Cup Competition on the front and on the reverse has a hall-mark and is inscribed Runners-Up 1952-53. Arsenal won the trophy. Good

(Waterhouse & Co.), approx. 225 ozs, and 56cms (22"); together with a large square shaped plain Irish silver stand, with three applied silver designs of horse racing, Dublin 1899, possibly by Charles Lamb, 30cms (12") square, 14cms (5 1/2") and c. 106ozs., total weight approx. 335ozs & 69cms (27") high. A small two handle trophy cup, approx. 13 ozs, Dublin c. 1904; an unusual barrel shaped two handled Mug, Dublin c. 1913, 5 ozs; and a small reeded silver circular Rose Bowl, Birmingham c. 1907, 4 ozs. Scarce Prussian Grenadiers Mitre Cap, having large white metal front plate and rear section with eagle to centre, trophy of arms and fused grenades etc. Scaled leather backed chinstraps. Red cloth bag with silver braid strips. Interior has an officers style leather sweatband and ribbed cloth lining, possibly for issue to an NCO. One small pin head hole to the cloth bag and white metal fittings have some of the brass underlay showing through in places. Overall a good example of a scarce item of Imperial German headdress.

Trophy of arms, patriotic scenes and various German state leaders to the top including Kaiser Wilhelm II. Housed in a glazed wooden frame measuring 65x55 cms.
