RUGBY UNION ENGLAND SHIRT-WORLD CUP 2003 Very scarce item, an England Rugby Union World Cup Final shirt from 2003. The shirt was worn by tight head prop Phil Vickery (number 3). Superbly framed and includes also a programme for the match, England v Australia 22/11/2003 at Telstra Stadium, Sydney, World Cup Final together with 3 photographs, (two teamgroups and a print showing Vickery wearing the shirt and holding the World Cup). The shirt is also signed by Phil Vickery to the front. England won 20-17 with a Jonny Wilkinson drop goal proving decisive deep in extra time and to date England are the only British country to have won the World Cup and this is the first and only time that they have won the Trophy. The shirt was purchased by the vendor at a charity dinner which took place to raise funds for a Lawrence Dallaglio charity and it was generously donated by Phil Vickery. Phil played for Gloucester from 1995-2006 before moving to Wasps. He played 54 times for Wasps before a neck injury forced his retirement from the game in 2010 and he made his final appearance against Gloucester at Kingsholm in September 2010 which was where he had started his career. Phil was capped 73 times by England and five times by the British Lions taking part in the 2001 and 2009 Lions tours. He played in 3 World Cup tournaments captaining England in 2007. In the triumphant 2003 World Cup he played in all 7 England games. Good
ARMY CUP FINAL 1914 Rather a poignant programme in this Centenary year of the start of the First World War, official programme for the Army Cup Final 1914, 1st Battalion Hampshire Regiment (Colchester) v Army Service Corps (Woolwich), 13/4/1914 at Army Football Ground, Aldershot. One is rather inclined to wonder how many of these young soldiers survived the First World War (which was only a few months away) unscathed. 16 page programme + covers and includes personal details of the players, list of previous winners since 1888, team group photographs of the teams and a photograph of the trophy etc. Rusty staples otherwise good. Generally good
