GORDON MCQUEEN, HIS SCOTLAND INTERNATIONAL CAP 1976-77 the royal blue cap gilt embroidered with THE SCOTTISH FOOTBALL ASSOCIATION LIMITED crest and date 1976-77Note: This cap was awarded to Leeds and later Manchester United star Gordon McQueen for his appearances for the national team during the 1976-77 season. This would of course include that years British Home Championships, a competition that stands to this day as amongst the most historically significant in our sporting history. It was one that came down to a final day clash between Scotland and England, played on the enemy’s soil, Wembley.A goal in the opening 45 from McQueen put Scotland ahead, with a second half effort from King Kenny Dalglish all but placing the trophy in Scottish hands. A last minute penalty from the English wasn’t enough, the whistle blew and what proceeded to happen still lives strong in Scottish folklore. The fans invaded the pitch en masse, asserting our nation’s dominance, tearing up the goalposts and even pocketing clumps of earth. This cap is therefore a significant part of our footballing heritage, awarded to one of the goal scorers for the integral part he played in that competition.Provenance: This was purchased at a Variety Club of Great Britain Tribute to Ally McCoist dinner, 1992. It is presented alongside a ticket and programme to that event, as well as supporting correspondence.

BRIAN LAUDRUP OF RANGERS F.C., SCOTTISH LEAGUE CUP FINAL COMMEMORATIVE SHIRT 1996 signed by the player, embroidered crest, Adidas, 'The Coca-Cola Cup Final 1996' and printed sponsor to front, S.F.L. branding to sleeves, mounted with plaquette, framed and under glass, 94cm x 94cm overallNote: Brian Laudrup is a Danish former footballer who is often regarded as one of the most talented players of his generation. He played for a number of clubs including Bayern Munich and Fiorentina, before he was signed by Rangers in 1994.He would spend a total of four years in Scotland, winning numerous trophies and accolades including three League titles, one Scottish Cup and one League Cup. He would look back upon his time with Rangers as ‘the best four years of my career.’ Certainly, the fans were of the same mind, Laudrup later inducted into the Hall of Fame upon its inauguration in 2000.This shirt was won as part of a competition when it was billed as the player’s match worn shirt from the 1996 Scottish League Cup final. Following further research, we can confirm that this shirt is not a match worn or issued example and is rather a commemorative piece. The game was played against Hearts, a team looking sharp, having already seen off Celtic enroute to the final. For Rangers, this season held a particular importance. This League Cup was a chance to set the tone during a year that would see them lift their celebrated ninth-League title in a row.The match itself was fiercely contested. Two goals from McCoist in the first half proving insufficient when Hearts drew level at 59 minutes. After a bust up and a dram at half time, Gazza was there though. Two quickfire goals at 64’ and 66’ looking enough to secure the game. Or was it? A 90th minute goal from future Rangers man Davie Weir would draw Hearts to within touching distance. Ultimately it wasn’t enough though, as the quality of that legendary Rangers squad shone through. Another trophy in what was, a most dominant period.Provenance: This shirt was won in 1996 as part of a competition ran by the Daily Record and was sent by the 1873 Rangers Superstore. It is presented alongside the prize-winning letter.
