Autographs - Gabriele d`Annunzio - A signed letter to Michael.J. Willcocks relating to World Water Speed records and record attempts by Henry Segrave and Kaye Don. `My dear Comrade, fraternally I salute you and your men, today - June 13th 1931 & June 13th 1930. Heroism is Resurrection. I have written to Marine Motoring Association. Drink to Segrave`s memory and to the next victory of Don. President Ernest Farrer telegraph me. Marine Motoring Association have today gratefully received your handsome and glorious trophy. I go to throw over board a branch of wild olive. Goodbye, Gabriele d`Annunzio 13th June 1931`. With original signed envelope, both framed and glazed. Gabriele d`Annunzio (1863-1938) was an Italian poet, journalist and novelist. He is seen by many as the originator of the ideals of Italian fascism and was indeed for many years a rival to Benito Mussolini. He resided on the banks of Lake Garda where Kaye Don broke the World Water Speed record in 1931. Michael `Jack` Willcocks was the riding mechanic on Henry Segrave`s Miss England II. On Friday June 13th 1930 on Lake Windermere whilst making a third attempt at the already broken World Water Speed record, the boat hit a floating branch and capsized, killing Segrave and chief engineer Victor Halliwell. Jack Willcocks was injured but survived.
