Tiffany & Co., United States. Unique large sterling silver trophy cup. With tripod legs in the form of American bison. The sides with three large sun motifs and a diamond pattern along the upper edge in black, gold, and copper tones. The three handles with geometric motifs in low relief. Marked along the underside "Tiffany & Co. Makers Sterling." The gold-wash interior further etched with geometric designs and inscribed "Catharine Lorillard Wolfe To Clarence Cecil Pell Nov. 15th 1885."Catharine Lorillard Wolfe (1828-1887) was an American philanthropist and art collector who left two major bequests to the Metropolitan Museum of Art. She additionally established the first permanent endowment fund for the purchasing of art for an American museum, leading to the expansion of the Met's collections.Clarence Cecil Pell (1885-1964) was likely a relative of Wolfe's through his mother, Katherine Lorillard Kernochan, who may have given the trophy as a gift upon his birth. Both were members of the Lorillard family which created Lorillard Tobacco Company that sold cigarettes under the brand names Newport, Maverick, Old Gold, Kent, True, Satin, and Max.Height: 10 3/4 in x diameter: 10 in. Weight: 83.21 Troy oz. />Condition: The silver is in good condition with no dents, major or deep scratches, losses, or restorations. There is light wear including light scratches throughout. VINTAGE CIGARETTE CASE 'GORDON BENNETT TROPHY' IRELAND 1903

(WAARDT, Christiaan van (?-?). Room with 35 citizen militiamen in the various uniforms of Patriot civic guards and civilian corps in the Netherlands in 1787). N.pl. (Amst.?), no publisher (Houtgraaff?), n.d. Aquatint (after De Waardt?), printed on laid paper, augmented w. elements completely drawn by hand and also richly cold. by hand, partly heightened w. gold. 370 x 490 mm. (Margins trimmed close to plate edge, but in good condition). NOTE: When the Prussian troops reached the river De Vecht in 1787, Amsterdam was the last stronghold of the patriots. Here we see the officers of the armed militias and civilian corps from all over The Netherlands holding council of war around a map showing place names such as Utrecht, Westbroek and Loenen. On the back wall paintings of two putti (one holding the 'vrijheidshoed'), on the left a head with a trophy of weapons, on the right a head with a trophy of musical instruments. - Cf. Atlas v. Stolk 4844 mentioning a separately published letterpress broadside containing w. explanation. None of the 7 (!) variants described there however seems to correspond to this print. As far as we could determine this variant not in the collection of the Rijksmuseum. Rare.

A.C. In order to do this, he commissioned the brilliant Genoese industrialist, architect and painter Marchese Carlo Cusani to redesign the Villa in the latest fashion and to add a Tudor style cottage. The works started in 1851 after an inspirational trip to London where both went to study the latest trends and probably acquire suitable furnishing for the Villa.
