A large 19th century Indian white metal jug and cover, with presentation inscriptions relating to the Third Lanarkshire Rifle Volunteers, the jug of cylindrical form with hinged, domed cover and dragon-cast spout, the body and cover chased with bands of animals and deities, with presentation inscription "Presented to 3rd L.R.V. by Robt. Easton Esq., Glasgow Sergeants' Prize" with various dated winner's names, the earliest being 1881 (jug unmarked); together with an Indian white metal baluster cup and cover of similar date, densely chased with scrolling flowers and foliage, with leaf-capped s-scroll handle, the domed cover with cobra-form knop (unmarked). Heights 23cm and 17cm (2). Note: the Lanarkshire Rifle Volunteers were a Volunteer Corps, based in Glasgow, the Third being centred on Strathbungo on the south side of the city. Robert Easton who presented the trophy may be Col. Robert Easton Aitken V.D., J.P., C.A. (1842-1923) who served with the Lanarkshire Volunteers and was appointed Lt.-Colonel in December 1881.
