King', hallmarked for Birmingham 1933, weight 488grams, approx. 15.6troy ozs, height 23cm, with ebonized plinth with three engraved winner's shields for 1936, 1937 and 1938
PUTNAM DAVID E. (1898-1918) American fighter pilot of World War I, a flying ace with thirteen confirmed victories. Known as the 'Ace of Aces', Putnam was shot down and killed at the young age of 19 by German ace Georg von Hantelmann. An extremely rare fountain pen ink signature ('David E. Putnam') with his squadron ('L. F. C. Escadrille MS 156')Beneath, on a feint ruled 8vo page removed from a notebook, also signed by six other fighter pilots of World War I including Edgar Guerard Hamilton (1891-1984), Walter J. Shaffer (1892-1974) both of whom were pilots with the Lafayette Flying Corps, serving in the same squadron as Putnam; and Maurice Prevost (1887-1952) French pioneer aviator who won the first Schneider Trophy race in 1913, and the Gordon Bennett Trophy in the same year. Neatly inlaid and with an integral leaf. VG Provenance: The present signatures were obtained by the French aviator Amedee de Flers (b.1885) who saw service during World War I.

ELKINGTON & CO; a plated lidded tureen for the White Star Line, stamped to the underside with the manufacturer's and shipping line details, further inscribed 'A28803', further inscribed to the lid 'E.M' and bearing ribbed decoration to the handles of the lid and the rim of the bowl, interspersed with stars, also three small electroplated bowls bearing a lifeboat motif inscribed 'E. Francis, Liverpool' and a small Mappin & Webb Princes plate trophy for the Blue Star Line, stamped 'Avila Star Ascot Cup', with applied enamelled Blue Star Line (5).
A 19th century white metal twin-handled trophy cup, the trophy embossed all over with floral patterns and a central panel with a rubbed presentation dedication, within garlands of scrolls, height 15cm, diameter from handle to handle 19cm, approx 11.4ozt. CONDITION REPORT There is no visible hallmark, however it could be rubbed. There is a lot of patina and there are areas of indents and scratches.

An Art Deco silver trophy cup, William Neale & Son Ltd, Birmingham 1935, twin-handled, 7cm x 13cm, approx. 3oz; a silver-plated tray, floral and scroll design to centre, shaped rim with floral border, on three raised feet, 36.5cm diameter; silvered figures of a soldier, pheasant and bird; other silver-plated wares; and a set of vintage kitchen scales with weights.
Eton and Royal Flying Corps interest: silver plated House Sports trophy awarded to G S Shephard, 1900, late Victorian gothic style, engraved 'House Sports, G S Shephard 2nd in Mile, Eton 1900'; and two glass-bottomed pewter tankards, one with engraved crest 'Winner of the College Sweepstakes / Floreat Etona', the other engraved 'A.de Grey, House Athletics, Eton 1873 and 1874', both with touch mark JE.Footnote: Gordon Strachey Shephard (1885-1918) attended Eton between 1898-1903 before moving on to the Royal Military College Sandhurst. He gazetted to the Royal Flying Corps where he quickly rose the ranks to Brigadier General. . His short yet illustrious career was cut short when his plane came down near the Auchel Aerodrome in January 1918. He was the highest ranking officer of the flying services to be killed in the First World War.
