An unusual early 19th century bandsman’s sword, slightly curved fullered blade 29½” etched with a small trophy of arms and instruments on both sides with flourishes, and retaining traces of gilding, solid brass stirrup hilt with 2 sidebars, lion’s head pommel, plain backstrap, ribbed grip, in its brass scabbard (some dents) with 2 rings and iron shoe. Kaye Don (1891-1981) World record breaking car & speedboat racer, personal items including a plaque presented by Dover Limited to Mr Kaye Don, Winner of the International Tourist Trophy, August 18th 1928, an Autodrome Montlhery Recordman enamel badge stamped on reverse Kay Don 46, a penknife stamped K.D. & a silver tiepin stamped K.D. in his personal box Provenance - The vendor was a friend of the wife of Kaye Don. Kaye Don served in England’s Army and Royal Flying Corps in WWI. A motorcycle racer before the war, he began car racing in 1920 and became the British Motor Racing Champion in 1928 and 1929. Kaye Don also held several World Water Speed Records in the 1930s and received the International Motor Yachting Union Medal.
