This serial number is recorded in W. Keith Neal & D.H.L. Back, The Mantons: Gunmakers, on page 274. Although the gun discussed by Neal & Back is similar (listed as belonging to James Purdey & Sons Ltd.), it is not the present Lot. AD6380B, 32in. nitro barrels with 10mm ventilated matt top-rib, bead foresight removed, 2 3/4in. chambers, 1/4 and full choke inserts, hold-open toplever, manual safety, non-selective adjustable single-trigger, plain bronze finish gold-inlaid with a trophy and garland, 14 3/4in. highly-figured pistolgrip stock including 1in. rubber recoil pad, sculpted fore-end, weight 8lbs. 8oz., in its universal case. Footnote: Richard Faulds is one of the most successful professional competition shots this country has produced. In 1996, at just 19 years of age, Richard represented Great Britain at Double Trap for the Centennial Olympic Games in Atlanta, Georgia, USA. His 5th place at those games was the best result England had produced since 1972. At the Sydney Games in September 2000, using this gun, Richard achieved every competitive shooters dream by taking the gold medal, in a dramatic shoot-off against the home favourite Russell Mark. The win also secured him a ten dollar side bet from his adversary.
