From the estate of the late Roy Houghton 1991 Honda GB500 Tourist TrophyRegistration no. H512 DFRFrame no. JH2PC1604LK100204Engine no. PC16E-2100208A factory 'café racer' introduced in 1986, the GB500TT looked very British, boasting coachlined paintwork; clip-on handlebars; rear-set footrests; chromed headlamp shell; matching speedometer and rev counter; and alloy-rimmed, wire-spoked wheels. It was a model that struck a chord with mature riders who hankered after the past but disliked the associated oil leaks, dodgy electrics, and general unreliability. Representing a rare opportunity to acquire one of these collectible Hondas, the US model offered here is one of the best we have seen. Purchased in 2000, it has been expertly modified by Roy, who has swapped over the gearchange/rear brake to the 'British' positions. The machine comes with its original silver-painted fuel tank and other original components. Accompanying paperwork includes an old US title; two bills of sale; and old/current V5/V5C documents.Footnotes:As with all Lots in the Sale, this Lot is sold 'as is/where is' and Bidders must satisfy themselves as to the provenance, condition, age, completeness, and originality prior to bidding. For further information on this lot please visit Bonhams.com

Lot 435

The property of the late John Renwick 2001/c.1950 Renwick-Vincent 'Epimetheus' 1,665cc Sprint Racing Motorcycle Registration no. not registeredFrame no. none visibleEngine no. F10AB/1/5183•The ultimate Vincent sidecar outfit?•Stellar performance•Designed, built, & sprinted by John RenwickFinishing second on Prometheus at The Brighton Speed Trials was a great result by any normal standards, but for John Renwick it was the spur to building a dedicated sprint machine on which he could win. Work started in November 2000, and fabrication was completed in March 2001. The new motorcycle was suitably named Epimetheus who, in Greek mythology, was the brother of fellow Titan Prometheus. 'Epi' benefitted massively from John's very considerable experience of building quick Vincents over several decades and went on to achieve astonishing successes especially when pitched against much more modern competition. The engine, which had been in John's possession for many years, is 1665cc with bore and stroke dimensions of 100mm x 106mm. The crank is to John's own design and likely to be very similar to that already described in relation to Prometheus, the conrods are Carrillo, the cams are homemade, the gearbox is a 5 speed Quaife, clutch is Kawasaki, carburettors are Gardners, and the ignition system is a Lucas Rita twin spark with high output coils. Compressed air is used to optimise each gearchange. The frame's front downtube also serves as a 3 pint fuel tank, the dummy tank being a fibre glass engine cover. John's notes written around 2009 read: 'Since winning the Classic Bike championship in its first season of running in 2001, this has been repeated in 2002, 2003, and 2006. The machine still holds most of the sprinting venues course records and has never been beaten by a classic machine, and only occasionally by the best modern equipment. The fastest standing quarter mile time is now 10.05 seconds with a terminal speed of 132 mph. This compares with the official British record of 11.746 seconds by Super Nero and the official world record of 10.60 seconds......The latest result is the win...at Brighton in 2009 against a full field of modern long wheelbase outfits.' Ultimate success at The Brighton Speed Trials hadn't come immediately, but the Sussex Trophy for the best time by a motorcycle and sidecar was won in 2007, 2009, 2010, and 2011.Harvey Bowden's excellent series of YouTube videos produced in 2012 & 2013 give a fascinating insight into John Renwick's talents and exploits, ably helped by Eddie Wallbank, his 'assistant co-worker'. Google 'Renwick Epimetheus Harvey Bowden' – these videos are most certainly worth watching! The Epimetheus video shows Epi on the brake 'developing about 180 bhp'! Epi's most recent sprint was in 2016 when John rode at Santa Pod. This was their final outing because by this time John was 78 and he decided to hang up his leathers. After a period of inactivity re-commissioning will be required before further use. Prospective bidders should satisfy themselves as to the motorcycle's completeness and mechanical condition.Footnotes:As with all Lots in the Sale, this Lot is sold 'as is/where is' and Bidders must satisfy themselves as to the provenance, condition, age, completeness, and originality prior to bidding. For further information on this lot please visit Bonhams.com

Property of a deceased's estate c.1955 Triumph 499cc TR5 TrophyRegistration no. not registeredFrame no. 29181Engine no. TR5 14841 NAFrom the time of its introduction in 1948, the Trophy was established as a true all-rounder: a machine that could be ridden to work during the week and then, with extraneous components removed, competed on at weekends in its owner's chosen branch of motorcycle sport. Although catalogued primarily as a trials machine, its true forte was scrambles and the ISDT, events in which the twin-cylinder engine's power worked to its advantage and its weight was less of a handicap. Nevertheless, the TR5 remained an extremely competent and stylish roadster until the end of production in 1958. Consisting of non-matching frame and engine, the former dating from 1952 and the latter from 1951, this incomplete Trophy is offered for restoration and sold strictly as viewed. The machine was purchased from a Government sale at Ruddington in May 1974.Footnotes:As with all Lots in the Sale, this Lot is sold 'as is/where is' and Bidders must satisfy themselves as to the provenance, condition, age, completeness, and originality prior to bidding.Lot to be sold without reserve. For further information on this lot please visit Bonhams.com

Property of a deceased's estate 1967 Triumph 649cc T120 BonnevilleRegistration no. RYO 726E (see text)Frame no. T120 DU 54301Engine no. TR6R DU 11033Unitary construction of the engine/gearbox had been a feature of Triumph's 350 and 500 twins since 1957 and that innovation duly appeared on the 650s in 1963. This particular T120 Bonneville dates from 1967, by which time the handling problems associated with earlier versions had been sorted and 12-volt electrics standardised. The engine is from a later TR6R Trophy, fitted with a Bonneville cylinder head. Currently displaying a total of 23,717 miles on the odometer, the Bonnie is offered for restoration and sold strictly as viewed (the engine does not turn). The machine comes with a V5 document. It should be noted the VRN 'RYO 726E' does not appear on the HPI/DVLA database. Accordingly prospective bidders must satisfy themselves as to the validity of the VRN prior to bidding.Footnotes:As with all Lots in the Sale, this Lot is sold 'as is/where is' and Bidders must satisfy themselves as to the provenance, condition, age, completeness, and originality prior to bidding.Lot to be sold without reserve. For further information on this lot please visit Bonhams.com

Steve decided three weeks away, it was just too much. I was devastated... what a thing to miss out on... I said to Barney, "What a shame it would have been great." He said, “It still will be. I’ll get the guy who did Electronic to do it." Wow! I thought... this bastard will be getting rid of me next! A FRENCH PORCELAIN INSET ORMOLU MANTEL CLOCK The movement by Japy Freres, Paris, circa 1870The eight-day two train bell striking movement with anchor escapement regulated by anchor escapement with disc bob pendulum, the backplate stamped with JAPY FRERES ET CIE, G'DE MED. D HONNEUR roundel beneath stamped initials P. L'TRE, the upper margin with serial number 143 and the lower margin further numbered 3 3, the rectangular porcelain dial panel with centre polychrome painted with a putto over trophy emblematic of the arts within Roman numeral cartouche chapter ring incorporating turquoise 'jewels' to the gilt decorated cobalt-blue ground margins within further multi-coloured 'jewel' and gilt scroll decorated infill to the rest of the panel, the rectangular case with ormolu mounted cobalt-blue porcelain urn surmount decorated with polychrome painted figural panels within further gilt decorated borders flanked by handles cast a storks, over fluted frieze and further bird-and-flower decorated side panels flanked by projecting angles incorporating scroll-cast terms with lions paw feet, the rectangular skirt base applied with musical and martial trophies to sides and inset with a frieze painted with putti at play to apron, on fluted squab feet, with a pair of ormolu mounted porcelain urn side pieces, each of ovoid form with gilt scroll decorated domed cover over slender neck and body with female mask handles and polychrome painted with figural panel opposing a landscape to rear within elaborate gilt borders, on conforming foot with gilt metal plinth incorporating concave angles, each with underglaze blue entwined 'L' marks to inside of the lid and signed De Michet to the figural panel, (3).The clock 48cm (19ins) high, 32cm (12.5cm) wide, 20.5cm (8ins) deep; the sidepieces, 35cm (13.75ins) high.Condition Report: Movement is fully wound but is very in very dirty/neglected condition hence is not in working order. Both trains are fully wound and the escapement has motive power. The strike train appears intact but inoperative most likely due to neglect and the bell is also missing. The dial panel is in fine condition with faults limited to a few of the tiny 'jewels' missing and negligible gilt rubbing. Both side panels appear free from damage; the panels in the base have a three of the beads missing from the borders with a couple being re-applied in incorrect places (white at the angles replacing the single ruby-red ones that should be there) otherwise panels are in good condition with minimal rubbing. The lid to the urn surmount has at some-point been broken into two and glued back together; the body of the urn is missing a small handful of beads/jewels from the borders of the painted vignettes otherwise appears to be in fine condition with minimal gilt wear. The case retains original gilding to the applied cast elements with only minor rubbing/wear however the main body of the case (frame) has been cleaned back at some point and lacquered hence does not retain gilding to these srfaces (case must have been dismantled to do this). Because of this a series of small copper plugs used to fill porosity in the casting when it was made is now visible.Except for one lid being broken into three-pieces and re-glued both urn side pieces are in good condition with other faults limited to a few very small edge chips to the other lid and a couple of small chips where the base of each is joined with the underside of the body of the urn these chips are covered by gilt painting. The gilding to the porcelain of each urn has minimal wear however the metal mounts would appear to have been cleaned of most of their original gilding.Clock has a pendulum but no winding key or bell. Please ask the department for additional images Condition Report Disclaimer

Lot 125

A FRENCH EMPIRE ORMOLU FIGURAL MANTEL CLOCKDubois Fils, Paris, early 19th centuryThe circular eight-day two train countwheel bell striking movement with anchor escapement regulated by disc bob pendulum incorporating silk suspension and backplate stamped B towards the upper margin, the circular white enamel Roman numeral dial signed Dubois Fils, Rue St. Honore N.22, A PARIS to centre, with steel spade hands set within foliate milled bezel, the case modelled with a plinth surmounted by a butterfly drinking from a tazza over foliate cornice and martial trophy frieze above dial with axe and foliate wreath decorated spandrels, set to the left of a male winged figure probably representing Amor or Eros wearing plumed helmet and holding a shield aloft whilst standing one-footed on a sphere, the rectangular base with mount cast as rosette issuing acanthus decorated spearheads over lotus-leaf cast ogee moulding to the skirt base, on compressed bun feet.41cm (16ins) high, 33cm (13ins) wide, 13cm (5ins) wide. Dubois Fils are recorded in Tardy DICTIONNAIRE DES HORLOGERS FRANCAIS as working from Rue Saint-Honore, Paris, circa 1800-20.

Lot 146

A DUTCH WALNUT AND MARQUETRY EIGHT-DAY QUARTER-CHIMING LONGCASE CLOCK WITH MOONPHASEThe dial signed for Jan Bernink, Amsterdam, mid 18th century and laterThe four columnar pillar triple-train movement chiming the quarters on a graduated nest of eight bells and rack striking the hour on a further larger bell, the going train with anchor escapement regulated by seconds pendulum, the 10.5 inch brass break-arch dial with foliate scroll engraved panels to the matted centre within applied silvered Roman numeral chapter ring with elaborate scroll half hour markers, arcaded minute ring and signed JAN, BERNINK, AMSTER, DAM to lower margin, with scroll pierced blued steel hands and spandrels cast as figures emblematic of the four seasons to angles within a gadroon-engraved border, the arch with rolling moonphase with figural decorated lunettes and calibrated for the age of the moon to the circumference of the disc within fine sailing ship and figure engraved silvered arched border, in a case with carved giltwood Atlas and Angel figural finials to the break-arch cornice centred with a foliate carved crest and with blind fret frieze over integral three-quarter columns applied to the foliate trail inlaid hinged glazed dial aperture, the sides with break-arch windows within conforming borders and bargeboards at the rear, the trunk with leaf decorated concave throat moulding over break-arch caddy moulded door inlaid with musical trophy over bird inhabited vase of flowers with scroll cast lenticle aperture between, the surround with foliate upper quadrant infill and line border and the sides further decorated with foliage, the plinth base with repeating lozenge inlaid concave top moulding and decorated with further musical trophy to front, on conforming decorated concave skirt with bun feet, (movement largely reconstructed during the 19th century). 229cm (90ins) high excluding figures, 43cm (17ins) wide, 25cm (9.75is) deep. Provenance: The Selwyn Demmy Collection. Jan Bernink is recorded in Baillie, G.H. Watchmakers & Clockmakers of the World as working in Amsterdam circa 1720-50.Condition Report: As catalogued the movement has been extensively reconstructed/rebuilt most likely during the second half of the 19th century hence trains would appear to be a mixture of 18th century and 19th century work; the movement pillars are 19th century are is the back and fly cocks. The movement is essentioally in relatively clean working condition however a precautionary gentle clean/service is advisable if intending to put into service. The dial is in good original condition; there is a historic and very well executed repair to the lower margin of the lower winding hole which may be indicative of there once being a calendar aperture beneath the third hole. The silvering to the arch is worn particularly to the lower edge and the chapter ring has a general patchy discolouration and wear. The lunar disc has some wear to the painted finish otherwise is in good condition. The movement rests on an old seatboard at the correct level within the case which when coupled with the unusual dial size would suggest that the movement and dial (when first built!) were original to the case. The case is generally in good original condition with no apparent significant issues but does exhibit historic bumps, scuffs, shrinkage and other age related blemishes. The figural finials and blocks are relatively recent replacements; the dowel for supporting Atlas is currently snapped. The concave skirting around the base has some wear to the leading edge veneers.Clock has pendulum, weights, case key and winder. Condition Report Disclaimer
