Gold horse racing trophy for the 1936 Chepstow Summer Cup,a 9ct. gold twin handled cup and cover by Fattorini & Sons Ltd., Birmingham, 1936, on a slender shaped pedestal, laurel decorated base and reserved panel inscribed GOLDEN ROD, CHEPSTOW, AUGUST 3rd 1936, height 19.5cm., weight 241gr., cup somewhat leaning forward, no damage Golden Rod was a chestnut colt by Pick Of The Circus our of Bridle Goose. He was owned by Miss P Davies, trained at Ogbourne by Martin Hartigan and ridden by Gordon Richards. The Champion jockey had been apprenticed to Martin Hartigan's yard and continued to ride for him when available. Golden Rod took advantage of huge weight concessions in the Chepstow Summer Cup receiving 22lb from the runner-up and 20lb from the third to win the mile race by 1 1/2 lengths. Yvan Muller BTCC race winning trophy Donington 2005,This impressive trophy was presented to Yvan Muller for winning at Donington Park in April 2005, running the VX Racing Astra. He went on to be runner up in the series in that year, his last in BTCC season. The French driver is one of the most successful Touring Car drivers of all time, winning the prestigious BTCC as well as being four times WTCC Champion. He was also BTCC runner up twice and WTCC runner up no less than six times!This silver plated trophy has two fluted handles on either side. It sits on a black pedestal that has an engraved black plaque with the series sponsor ‘Dunlop’, the series round and the date of the event. It stands approximately 65cm in height. Whilst it has some minor patina and marks from storage, these do not detract from this fantastic piece.Original race winning trophies are rarely made available, let alone from a true legend of Touring Car Racing.

An important early trophy for women's tennis: The Buxton Open Lawn Tennis Tournament Challenge Silver Bowl for the Ladies Doubles All England Championship competed for between 1896 and 1902,the large rose bowl embossed the acanthus scrolls, rose heads and hatched decoration surrounding two engraved cartouches bearing BUXTON OPEN LAWN TENNIS TOURNATMENT CHALLENGE BOWL FOR THE LADIES DOUBLES ALL ENGLAND CHAMPIONSHIP and the second with the winners names dating from 1896 to 1902 including three time winners Mrs Pickering and Miss Robb, raised upon a waited circular pedestal base with similar embossed decoration, the base engraved TO PEG FROM THE WINNER 27TH JUNE 1936, hallmarked London 1896 by Wakely and Wheeler, diameter 28cm., height 18cm., weight approx. 1164gm. Prior to 1913 Ladies’ Doubles was a non -Championship Event at Wimbledon and the Ladies Doubles All England Championship was held in the quiet English Spa town of Buxton in the Peak District. The first winners in 1887 were Lottie Dod and May Langrishe. In 1893, 1894 & 1895 the tournament was won by Mrs Hillyard and Mrs Steedman, and upon the third victory the trophy was retired and the players were allowed to retain it. What is being sold here is the new trophy first competed for in 1896. This trophy too was to be retired after the 1902 competition when Mrs Pickering and Miss Robb won it for a third time. The engraving to the base informs us that the trophy was later presented to "Peg" on 27th June 1936.Provenance: Mellors & Kirk auction, September 2019, Lot 173.

He also kept a clean sheet in their 1938 FA Cup final victory over Huddersfield town. Holdcroft was selected to play for England twice in the 1936 Home Internationals against Wales and Ireland.
