An early 19th century Irish Militia officer’s presentation sword of the Creggan Infantry, curved, shallow fullered blade 30” marked “Osborns” and “Warranted” in scrolls on one side with trophy of arms, ornate crowned GR cypher, and figure of Justice, and on the other side with 1801-16 R Arms and mottoes, presentation inscription in scrolls “This sword was presented by the Non Commissioned Officers and Privates of the Creggan Infantry to their Commanding Officer, Christopher Crawley, Esqre as a small but genuine Testimony of their Esteem”, and trophy of arms, all in foliate panels, gilt brass stirrup hilt, the recessed crossguard, quillon and langets embossed with stylized foliage, plain engraved knucklebow (replaced) lion’s head pommel and backstrap, wirebound ivory grip (few small cracks and chips), in its tooled leather scabbard with panelled locket (frog stud missing), middle band and chape, with 2 rings. GC, the hilt and scabbard mounts retaining approx 15% original gilt (minor wear to blade) Plate 6 Note: The Creggan Volunteer Militia was formed in County Cork in 1796 with Capt. A French fireman’s brass helmet c 1900, brass binding to front and back peaks, studs at back, ear to ear HP embossed with trophy and wreath, grenade on shield, and scrolls “Srs Pompiers Villiers S.O”, panelled sides to comb with curled finial, ear roundels and left side plume holder. A good Volunteer officer’s sword, c 1798, of Lieut Col Kearsley, curved, shallow fullered blade 30½”, blued and gilt all round at forte, with “Lieut. Col. Kearsley” on backstrap, “Dawes Birmingham” on floral panel on one side, and “Warranted” in similar panel on the other, plainly etched for remainder of blade with trophy of arms, pre 1801 R Arms and supporters, and figure of Justice on one side, and wreath, crowned ornate GR cypher and Britannia standing, on the other, gilt stirrup hilt with crossguard and quillon, sideloop enclosing a grenade (small fracture), facetted knucklebow into lion’s head pommel and facetted backstrap, wirebound ivory grip (2 tiny chips at top), in its tooled and panelled leather scabbard with gilt locket and frog stud, middle band and chape, with 2 rings. Near VGC for age, the hilt and scabbard mounts retaining approx 85% original gilt (plain section of blade cleaned) Plate 6 Note: With a photostat from Army List for N America showing John Kearsley, Lieutenant, Sept 1779. An RN sword for Commanders and above, c 1810, straight fullered blade 32”, etched with 1801-16 R Arms with supporters, and trophy on one side and crowned fouled anchor and trophy on the other, all in wreathed panels, copper stirrup hilt, langets engraved with fouled anchor, facetted knucklebow, flattened lion’s head pommel and backstrap, wirebound ivory grip. GC, with traces of gilt to top of blade and hilt. Plate 6
An officer’s 22 bore percussion holster pistol, by Ezekiel Baker & Son,15½” overall, sighted barrel 9” with flat topped breech engraved “E Baker & Son, Makers to his Majesty” within tapered panel terminating in a sunburst (the engraving partly obliterated by the rearsight), the signed back action lock engraved with scrolls and martial trophy within wavy border, the plain walnut fullstock with flared butt having small oval silver butt plate and escutcheon, the steel mounts comprising engraved trigger guard with pineapple finial and long ramrod pipe. A George II silver twin handled trophy cup probably by Robert Innes. With double scrolling handles and raised on a circular spreading foot. Hallmarks heavily rubbed with makers mark appearing on the body and each handle, London. 264 grams, 10.75cm. Condition Report. To be used as a guide only. Numerous dents and wear. One thumbpiece worn down considerably.
An early 20th century Chinese silver mounted hardwood trophy shield and similar smaller example. Chased with pine clusters, prunus blossom and a bird and with character marks to the centre, 32cm. DESCRIPTION:Dore brass mantel clock by H&F Paris. Features a Rococo scrolled motif with reticulated accents throughout the entirity of the clock. Fitted with female Greco-Roman visage along the top of the face and Greco-Roman columns flanking the center face. Center face embellished with baroque scrolled designs and a lion encompassed with handpainted Roman Numeral porcelain dials encased in a glass swiveling compartment. Finished with a reticulated trophy urn on the top and marked on the movement in the interior:"H&F Paris".
