Guernsey Horse Jumping interest - A large silver plate winners trophy cup, of neoclassical urn form, with twin column handles, the back with oval reserve decorated with riders jumping a fence, the front with oval cartouche with inscription 'PRESENTED ~TO~ WEST UNITED A&H SOCIETY ~BY~ J.W.LAMB, ESQ., ~FOR~ ISLAND HORSE JUMPING COMPETITION. TO BE WON ANY THREE TIMES.', the whole repousse decorated with ribbon swags, raised on ebony turned and stepped plinth with three applied shields, inscribed with the winner T.St J. Mansell 1947; 1948; 1949, the back with applied rectangular plaque 'Won outright by "OUDA" BAY MARE 11 YEARS', overall height 16 5/8in. (42.3cm.).
An impressive pair of Paris porcelain gold ground vases, early 19th century, in the Empire style, probably by Dartes Freres or Nast, the ovoid body with a pair of female herm handles, below a flared neck and moulded rim, each vase finely painted with scenes of peasant life, within gilded foliate borders, the reverse decorated in gilt with a laurel wreath and a trophy, on a socle base and square plinth, 16 7/8in. A French mahogany and floral marquetry bureau, in the Louis XVI style, the fall with serpentine floral marquetry panel and gilt metal border, enclosing a fitted interior with tooled leather, a central marquetry panelled door with a musical trophy flanked by two drawers and a pigeonhole above, over a single drawer beneath with scalloped apron, raised on angular cabriole style legs, 41½ x 24in. (105.5 x 61cm.), 38½in. (97.75cm.) high, requires some restoration.

A LARGE 19TH CENTURY SILVER RACING TROPHY CUP, London 1894, mark of Elkington & Co Ltd., relating to Paddy the hunter (lot 522), with twin handles, the base partially fluted and raised on a circular foot, with stand. 50cms wide over handles, 36cms high; together with Guy St. John Williams and Francis P.M Hyland 'The Irish Derby 1866 - 1979'. J. D Wardell was the only person to have won the Irish Derby three times. Initially raced under the name John Dennison as he was a Quaker and racing was banned. He was subsequently thrown out of the Quakers.
