* SCOTT SUTHERLAND DA RSA FRBS (SCOTTISH 1910 - 1984), DIANA wood carving, signed, titled and dated 1979 verso 34cm high. Note: Sculptor Scott Sutherland was born at Wick, Caithness. He trained at Gray's School of Art, Edinburgh School of Art and Ecole des Beaux Arts (Paris), and briefly in Egypt, Germany, Greece and Italy. He taught sculpture at Dundee College of Art from 1947. Sutherland's most important work was The Commando Memorial at Achnacarry (about a mile from Spean Bridge). He won an open competition in 1949 to design the memorial which was unveiled by the HM The Queen Mother on 27 September 1952. Other large-scale works include The Black Watch Memorial (1966) at Powrie Brae, Dundee and The Hugh Dowding Memorial (1972) at Moffat, Annandale & Eskdale. Among his other sculptures are: statues of famous Scotsman for the Empire Exhibition in Glasgow 1936; the Coat of Arms (in sandstone) for the entrance to National Library, Edinburgh; a bronze capercaillie for the school at Kenmore; the Robert Burns statue at Arbroath; the carved slate memorial panel to the crew of Broughty Ferry Lifeboat Mona; the silver trophy of the Royal Observer Corps and the Leaping Salmon Fountain for the Norrie Miller Memorial Garden at Perth in Perthshire. Sutherland won the Guthrie award in 1940.

* ALMA WOLFSON DA, STILL LIFE WITH SWEETS oil on board, signed image size 19cm x 21cm, overall size 34cm x 36cm Framed and under glass. Note: Alma Wolfson was born in 1942. Between 1960 and 1964 Alma studied under Robert Stewart at Glasgow School of Art. Alma has exhibited at many solo and mixed British and Scottish art exhibitions. In the process Alma's paintings have won many art awards including: Barclay Lennie Award Glasgow Society of Women Artists 1995; Millers Art Prize Paisley Art Institute 1995; Southern Art Club Trophy 1995 &1998; Alva Purchase Prize SAAC 1998; Save the Children Award 2000. Alma loves painting 'en plein air' in the Scottish country and seaside. She produces compelling paintings in both oil and watercolours. Wolfson's painterly approach is suited and used to great effect when painting Landscape or Seascapes. But she is equally at home producing beautiful Still Life paintings. For the last 30 years she spent time on the tiny island of Easdale on Scotland's west coast. Much of her landscape work has been inspired by this remote part of Argyll where Alma is a familiar sight on the island often seen as a tiny figure sitting wrapped up against the elements in front of a large canvas.

An Interesting Collection of Interwar Period Photographs and Ephemera, relating to J53479 Chief Petty Officer Harold Charlesworth, who served with the Royal Navy from 1918 until 1945, including serving on HMS Suffolk of which many of the photographs relate. The collection comprises snapshots taken by him of his colleagues, the places visited including China, Chile, Brazil, Japan etc., souvenir postcards, his Certificate of Service, Torpedo History Sheet, Wedding Certificate and photograph, wooden ship's plaque to HMS Suffolk, a small silver trophy cup, a silver medallion ''Fleet Torpedomens Relay, Bermuda 1932'', his peaked cap with raised bullion thread embroidered badge and the order of service for the Committal of his Ashes at Sea 9th December 1992. Provenance:- Harold Charlesworth was the vendor's uncle. He served in the evacuation of servicemen from the beaches and harbour of Dunkirk in 1940. He was awarded the D.S.M. for actions in the Madagascar Campaign which was the British campaign to capture the Vichy French-controlled island. The vendor is happy to speak to the purchaser with more information.

Special Gift from Marie Antoinette ?Pendule et Flambeaux? ÿ An extremely important exquisite Louis XVI French ormolu Mantle Clock, by Regnault of Paris,ÿ together with matching pair of Candlesticks, all contained in original leather covered travelling case. This attractive heavy ormolu Mantle Clock is of upright rectangular form, the top decorated with trophy and scrolls, over a circular white convex enamel dial with Roman numerals, outside count wheel striking on a steel bell, the pierced front and sides chased with flowers, leaves and scrolls and on a chased moulded platform, over a rectangular base with inverted centre panel chased with vines and leaves, on four adjustable circular feet, approx. 33cms high (13?); the Candlesticks with leaf cast urn sockets, on a tapering reeded column and circular leaf cast and fluted base, 8 1/2" (21cms).ÿ Provenance ÿOn May 16th 1770, Louis, Duc de Berry, married Archduchess Maria Antonia of Austria. He was 15, she was 14, and Louis becameÿking in 1774. Maria Therese de Barmont was a lady-in-waiting to Marie Antoinette and received the clock as a gift from her. She was only 13 at the time of wedding. Marie Therese de Barmont (1757 ? 1849) married in 1778, Charles de Pleurre, Marquis de Pleurre (1737 ? 1810). Their daughter, Adelaide (1797 ? 1884), married Andre Etienne d?Audebard de Ferussac (1786 ? 1836). Their son Amedee (1817 ? 1897) married Alice Thorn, daughter of Colonel Herman Thorn of New York in 1845. Their daughter Alice then married George Patrick Lattin Mansfield of Morristown Lattin, Naas, Co. Kildare in 1878. From whence by direct descent to the present owner. Biographical Notes: 1.ÿÿÿÿÿÿ Claude Charles de Pleurre, Marquis de Pleurre was born in 1737 at Chateau de Pleurre. He was a Marechal de Camp in the Kings Army, and later a French Politician. 2.ÿÿÿÿÿÿ Andree Etienne d?Audebard de Ferussac (1786 ? 1836) was a renowned French Naturalist, Botanist specialising in molluscs, malacology, and was the author of several important works on the subjects. He was also a well-known politician. 3.ÿÿÿÿÿÿ Colonel Herman Thorn, known as ?The Forgotten American Prince,? played a significant role in establishing America?s social identity in the early part of the 19th Century, through his patronage of writers, artists, and politicians. He has been lauded as the most colourful character of his generation.
