A George III faded mahogany knife box, the crossbanded hinged sloping lid later painted in the style of Angelica Kauffmann with central Classical profile roundel within festoon swags and foliate borders, enclosing interior later fitted for stationery over serpentine moulded front with oval brass ring handle, escutcheon plate and painted musical trophy flanked by Prince of Wales feathers and festoon garlands, 38cm high, 23.5cm wide.
A French gilt brass four-glass mantel clock, circa 1880, the eight-day two-train bell-striking movement with mercury compensated pendulum and visible brocot escapement to the centre of the two-piece Roman numeral white enamel dial, the case with cast globe and telescope foliate draped trophy crest, over leafy mount applied caddy moulded angles and plinth base with foliate feet, 36cm high.
Thos Ellis, Plymouth. A 19th century French alabaster and gilt metal mounted mantel clock, surmounted by an urn finial, flanked by putti holding trumpets, with applied musical trophy decoration, the 9cm. dial with gilt Arabic numerals, signed 'Thos Ellis, Plymouth', the circular twin drum movement striking to a bell, raised on a giltwood base, contained under a glass dome, 48cm. high.

A 19th Century Danish Naval Officers Sword, the 70cms slightly curved pipe back blade slightly etched with a trophy of arms, scrolling foliage etc. The gilt brass hilt with a single knuckle bow and pierced with a crowned fouled anchor. The grip of ivory, complete in scabbard with gilt fittings. The throat with a frog stud in the form of a shell and chiselled with an anchor against two flags. (Blade etching faint, gilding rubbed, scabbard chapel lacking)
A German fireman's parade axe, 17" overall, the head etched overall with figure of a fireman with hose against a background of ladder and buckets entwined with oak leaves, and with motto "Gott z ehr d Nachster zur wehr", and with trophy of helmet, axe, hose, etc; steel mounted wooden haft, with leather frog. A Vic courtsword, slim DE blade 31", by C J Kino, 40 West Strand, London, etched with crowned VR cypher and trophy within scrolled panels, gilt brass hilt with downturned scroll engraved shell guard, crossguard and knucklebow, square section grip and urn shaped pommel, all with beaded borders, gilt lace knot and tassels, in its brass mounted leather scabbard and chamois lined cover. A fine silver-mounted flintlock blunderbuss for Eastern presentation by Wilson, London,circa 1800 with short iron barrel strongly flared towards the muzzle, inlaid with spiralling silver bands of grapes and foliage within beadwork ribbon over the upper three-quarters of its length(rubbed), finely chiselled with a pseudo-Turkish trophy-of-arms in relief on a punched gilded ground over the breech, struck with counterfeit Eastern proof mark, St Etienne proof and 'Turdu' underneath, and silver heart-shaped fore-sight, signed rounded lock chiselled on the tail, cock and steel en suite with the breech, figured walnut full stock with raised cheek-piece, profusely overlaid over its entire surface with engraved silver plaques comprising flowers and foliage within diagonal frames over the fore-end, Eastern trophies and ballflowers amidst scrolling foliage on each side of the butt, and a pair of oval relief plaques on the grip, full silver mounts cast and chased in low relief en suite with the barrel and lock, and silver false ramrod 58cm; 22.875in
A French flintlock pistol for the Levantine market, by Berthon-Bourlier et fils Aine, St Etienne,circa 1820 with sighted barrel formed in two stages and chiselled with a trophy-of-arms in relief over the length of the breech, engraved barrel tang, signed engraved lock (top-jaw replaced), wooden full stock profusely decorated with complex patterns of white metal wire foliage and border ornament, full silver mounts cast and chased in relief, and horn-tipped wooden ramrod: in a modern fitted case; a pair of American percussion travelling pistols by V.Libeau, Birmingham proof marks, with octagonal barrels inscribed 'London' and inlaid with a silver line, German silver box-lock side-hammer actions signed on the breech and engraved with foliage, chequered figured walnut butts, each with engraved German silver trap with engraved steel cover, engraved steel trigger-guards, iron belt hooks and stirrup ramrods the first: 35cm; 13.75in (3)
A German etched partizan,mid-18th century with small head formed with a central blade reinforced at the point, the base widening to a pair of up-turned flukes, and moulded neck with a pair of short straps, the blade decorated on each face with an etched panel of strapwork foliage, a trophy-of-arms on a faux-damascus ground, and with traces of gilding (haft replaced); another, mid-18th century, the etched decoration involving a double-eagle on one face, an allegorical figure on the other and trophies at the base (patches of pitting, haft replaced); another, mid-18th century (the fluke chipped, etching rubbed, haft replaced); and an Officer's undecorated partizan, late 17th/early 18th century (the haft replaced) the first: 29.3cm; 11.5in head (4)
A rare embossed frontal plate for a colletin,circa 1620-40, probably French perhaps for a Swedish officer, formed in one piece extending to a point over the chest, decorated with a series of five differing trophies-of-arms after Jan de Vries embossed in low relief on a contrasting minutely pounced matted ground, with the detail also faintly pounced, the parts of the ground immediately below the neck and at the upper extremities of the sides all left plain and in turn contrasting to form clouds-in-splendour, the edges turned, and retaining a part of the original quilted leather lining and red velvet border ornament (the outer surface rubbed) 28cm; 11in The embossed trophies are inspired by a series of engravings entitled Panoplia, published in Antwerp by Jan Vredeman de Vries in 1572. A noteworthy addition here to the de Vries designs is the incorporation of the Royal Arms of Sweden (very faintly punched) on a pair of crossed standards within one trophy. A further rendition of the de Vries trophies appears etched on the back of a colletin made for the Prince Elector Johann Georg II of Saxony in 1654 (see the von Kienbusch collection catalogue, no. 150)
* Lawrence (Thomas Edward, 1888-1935). T.E. Lawrence and unknown female passenger in the 'Biscuit' motor-boating [on Plymouth Sound, c. 1930], sepia-toned photo, horizontal crease, sm. closed tear at lower margin, torn in 'half' with loss of bow of boat, pencilled tracing of boat and fumes to verso with a note in Lawrence's hand, 'This is smoke & noise', 163 x 103 mm. Lawrence arrived at RAF Cattewater [renamed Mount Batten], near Plymouth, in March 1929, as personal assistant to the Commanding Officer Sydney Smith. In September 1929, in recognition for their joint hard work in organising the Schneider Trophy seaplane contest, they were presented with a Biscayne Baby speedboat, soon renamed 'The Biscuit'. 'Biscuit' was finally made seaworthy by April 1930.
