Red Trees and House - A Clarice Cliff Leda shape side plate circa 1930 with a central stylised landscape in red, green and black with black and red banding, Fantasque mark, width 17cm. Condition - No chips, cracks or restoration. [A 1929 Fantasque pattern, popular for three years. This ‘cottage in a landscape’ is now synonymous with the name of Clarice Cliff and consists of a country cottage half hidden by highly stylised trees and a ‘bubble’ bush with small clouds wafting overhead. Known in orange, red, pastel, blue and yellow colourways. DM]
Rudyard - A large Clarice Cliff Daffodil shape jug circa 1933 hand decorated with a stylised tree landscape in tonal green, blue and pink with tonal blue and green banding, Bizarre mark, height 17.5cm. Condition - Professional hairline restoration from the rim. [This beautifully modelled curvy shaped jug is from the custom designed Daffodil range from 1930 and is here seen in the 1933 Rudyard pattern, the pastel coloured version of Honolulu. Both colourways were introduced in 1933 as part of the Fantasque range. The Daffodil shape range was originally issued in a soft pink glaze called Damask Rose, then in many of Clarice’s patterns including Fantasque landscapes. Blue Autumn - A large Clarice Cliff conical jug circa 1931 hand decorated with a tree and cottage landscape with orange banding, FANTASQUE and Bizarre mark, height 16.5cm. Condition - No cracks or restoration, small frit to the tip of the spout and a few minor paint scratches. [Probably the second most popular Autumn colourway after red, of the many colour sets produced in this pattern. The pattern consists of sinuous trees, bushes and a small cottage. Numerous colourways were named after dominant foliage including blue, red, orange, yellow, green, pastel (1930-34); ‘matchings’ were made until 1940. A black version (1930-34) is also known, as is a silver version on a platinum glaze (1935) sometimes with a man carrying a rucksack walking near the tree! Pastel Melon - A Clarice Cliff shape 515 bowl circa 1931 hand decorated with a continuous frieze of abstract fruit in pastel shades with blue banding, FANTASQUE and Bizarre mark, height 12.5cm. Condition - Small hairline to the rim, frits to the upper rim and a number of chips to the stepped fins.
Melon - A Clarice Cliff conical tea cup and saucer circa 1932 hand decorated with abstract geometric fruit within yellow, black and orange banding, Bizarre mark. Condition - No chips, cracks or restoration, minor paint scuffs. [A 1930 Fantasque pattern comprising geometric-styled fruit interspersed with a contour line effect. Orange, red, green, blue and pastel colourways are also known. DM]
Ophelia - A Clarice Cliff dinner plate circa 1936 transfer printed and painted with a large Aesthetic style vase of flowers in brown sepia line picked out in tonal oxide pastel colours over a celadon ground, printed name and script signature together with a series of hand painted glaze colour codes in black, width 25.5cm. Condition - No chips, cracks or restoration.
Marguerite - A Clarice Cliff teapot and cover circa 1931/32 of swollen ovoid form with a domed cover relief moulded with large blooms and buds and a conforming moulded loop handle picked out in pastel green, pink and yellow over a tonal pink Delecia style ground, large script signature, height 13cm. Condition - Small hairline to the inside lip of the cover.
