1997 Princess Diana: a particularly good portrait in pastel and chalk on paper by Barbara Kaczmarowska Hamilton depicting the Princess head and shoulders looking slightly to sinister against a sky background, signed and dated B. Hamilton 97, contained in the original gilt gesso and painted glazed frame, 760 x 680mm overall excluding cresting (commemorative, commemorate, royal) *Painted by the artist and generously presented to the Treloar Trust who subsequently offered this painting at a charity auction held during their Summer Charity Ball from where it was acquired by the vendor. Depicted in a round necked blue dress, wearing heart shaped pearls with matching earrings, inspiration for this stylish composition quite probably came, with a degree of artistic licence towards the jewellery, from the visit by the Princess of Wales to Russia in June 1995 where she received the International Leonardo Prize (honouring distinguished patrons of medicine, sports and the arts).Barbara Kaczmarowska Hamilton (Basia Hamilton) is an acclaimed society portrait painter. She was born in Poland and now resides in Britain. Amongst those who have sat for her are His Holiness John Paul II, together with other world leaders and Heads of State also members of the British Royal Family including Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother, HRH the Princess Royal, HRH the Duke of Kent and HRH Prince Michael of Kent.
