Andrew Vicari Dylan Thomas A head and shoulders portrait Pastel Signed and inscribed Andrew Vicari has sketched a portrait of Dylan Thomas for the lighthouse theatre group to auction as a fund-raiser for their forthcoming autumn tour and proposed visit to South America in October. The theatre are touring their adaptation of Noel Coward plays, Brief Encounters, all across Wales in September, and have been invited to Uruguay, Chile and Patagonia afterwards. Andrew has followed their work for some time and gave them the portrait to raise funds last year. A Madame Ernest Ltd black wool coat, circa 1925, labelled, adorned with broad embroidered bands, black beaver facings, chest 102cm, 40in; together with a printed silk kimono with pastel blossom; and a paisley printed silk shawl with knotted fringes (3) CONDITION REPORT: Generally good condition but black coat has a moth hole to centre back shoulder area, embroidered areas are good, blue silk crepe de chine lining is worn at the underarms. Kimono dress is good condition, one underarm seam needs slightly re-stitching (minor). Shawl is good condition.
Two woven silk stoles, probably Spitalfields, early 19th century, one of pale golden beige with deep borders of poppies cornflowers and wheatears in pastel shades; the other of shot ivory/yellow silk with floral repeat borders in mainly yellow,blue, pink and green, 252 by 62 and 268 by 83cm (2) CONDITION REPORT: Stole with light beige ground: border colours are good, generally good condition, the occasional small stain concealed within the pattern on one end, plain central ground with approx. 4 small brown stains near edges. Stole with yellow ground: shot silk ground is generally good, the occasional small brown spot stain, small splits in edges at border ends, I suspect it has been washed.
Three dresses of Celia Birtwell printed chiffon, recently made by Kathleen Coleman using cut but un-used 1970s dress panels from Ossie Clark's studio, un-labelled, one in variation of the 'Tulip' print, the others in pastel shades, busts approx 91-96cm, 36-38in (3) Provenance: Kathleen Coleman, worked as Ossie Clark's machinist at Quorum and acquired the fabrics at that time. CONDITION REPORT: good condition, no problems
An Edward Molyneux couture lavishly embellished evening gown, circa 1955-7, with large woven satin label, 'Molyneux, made in France', no 220094, adorned with flowerheads formed from shells and pastel sequins, with iridescent sequined foliate scrolls, large band of shells and pearl beads to the lower border, layered crin petticoats, bust 97cm, 38in, waist 76cm, 30in Provenance: the late Meta Morris Evans who worked as social secretary at a number of embassies in Washington DC. CONDITION REPORT: Soiled, needs cleaning, some of the large pearl beads o the lower skirt border are missing at the front, crumpled
Seven cocktail dresses in pastel shades, mostly pink, late 1950s, including a Mary Chandler lilac satin dress, labelled, with embroidered skirt spangled with rhinestones; a pleated ombré example in shades of pink and green; and others, busts approx 92-96cm, 36-38in, waists approx 61-71cm, 24-28in (7) CONDITION REPORT: · Lilac satin with embroidery - hems needs re-stitching and is soiled, speckling of light brown spots to lower front skirt. Perspiration guards at underarms are stiff and stained (could be removed). Otherwise good, very nicely made with interior corset and garters. Still has tacking stitches at side seams · Ombre example - good condition, interior corset is discoloured from perspiration · Pink lace - good condition · Green silk - hem is un-finished/has been let down, perspiration stains at underarms, silk is shattering at underarms, shoulder straps and back zipper. Nicely made with interior corset and hand finished · Gold and pink brocade - good condition, 2 small brown stains to front left of skirt · Pink with belt - good condition, hem has been raised approx. 2in. Corset and hand finished interior · Beige cotton - rear skirt has greasemarks
