CYRIL ROBERTS (1871-1949) "A head and shoulder portrait study of a lady in pink cape", pastel, signed bottom right, 39 cm x 28 cm (ARR) CONDITION REPORTS Please note that size is 39 x 28cm (not 93 x 28). Overall with general wear and dirt. The frame is glazed. Frame has quite a lot of chips and losses to the decoration.
THOMAS MILLIE DOW RSW NEAC PS ROI (SCOTTISH 1848-1919), ROSES pastel on paper, signed, titled verso 44cm x 54.5cm Framed and under glass Label verso: T & R Annan & Sons Ltd, Glasgow Note: Born Dysart, Fife. Studied in Paris under Gerome and Carolus Duran. In Paris met William Stott of Oldham whose style, itself based upon that of Bastien-Lepage, greatly influenced Dow. He painted at Grez-sur-Loing, the French village where many artists worked including Lavery, Roche, Kennedy, Stott and Irish artist Frank O`Meara. Back in Scotland, Dow was associated with The Glasgow Boys. In 1895 he settled in St Ives. He was a gifted flower painter and his pastels show the influences of Whistler and Stott. Died St Ives.
