Four pictures of local interest, comprising; E M WIlliams, Near Guy's Head, etching, artist's proof, 22cm by 31.5cm, Derick Abel, Burnham Overy, watercolour, signed, 17.5cm by 31.5cm, Jill Maischner, Roadside at Metheringham, Bloxholme Lane, pastel, titled verso, 26cm by 21.5cm, and David Hollinshead, The Vicarage, pastel, signed, dated '80, 29cm by 30cm. Rt. Bompiani, ROMA, 1870, a pair of extremely well executed Charcoal and Pastel Portraits of a lady and a gentleman, the lady having brown hair and brown eyes and wearing a diaphanous white blouse with a cameo brooch at the neck and with a black, lace edged wrap/scarf; the gentleman being of middle age with blue eyes, receding brown hair and a beard, wearing a white shirt, black neck-tie and a white waistcoat under a black jacket and with a lorgnette suspended around his neck tucked into his waistcoat. Each picture is signed and dated at the middle left and measuring 25 3/4" x 19 1/4" approximately is mounted in an ornate gilded frame with a frieze depicting in relief trailing Ivy and Oak leaves. Written verso in chalk to each in longhand is the word "Rhodes" and each has a small trade label: "Tomaso Villa, Inquadratore d'aquarelli e disegni in ogni genere, Roma Via della Stelletta No. 22". Provenance: this pair of portraits was purchased on the 28th August, 1993 at this firm's two-day, on the premises marquee sale of the personal effects of the late Miss. Molly Rhodes at "Glentrothy", Llanvetherine, Abergavenny, the long standing family home of the Rhodes family who had connections via marriage with the Vaughan family of the Courtfield near Goodrich, Ross-on-Wye.
A 19th Century Staffordshire flatback modelled as the facade of a grand house with a red robed shepherd and his dog to the pediment, together with a Staffordshire spill vase modelled as a twin turreted castle with figures at a table to the foreground, a pastel burner modelled as a turreted building, a similar flatback, a modelled of a seated Victorian gentleman holding a doll on his knee and two small figures of spaniels with figures sat to their backs, all S/D (7)
