Into the Woods - Pastel. A pathway leads from a bright open space into a shadowy wood - or is it leading from the shadows into the light? To travel in the natural landscape, no matter what the direction or the terrain, enriches the mind, body and soul and balances our view of the World. A necessary escape from the pressures of the urban and industrial landscape.
Looking Up to the Sky - Oil pastel. Looking Up to The Sky Whilst laying on Cromer beach last May on a fine warm day, I observed how wonderfully blue the sky was and its smooth contrast to the sea worn stones and rocks that lay next to me. Intertwined and tangled in amongst the assorted stones was a sea tumbled tree branch, washed up from ‘who knows where’!
Braving the Elements - Pastels. This small pastel sketch is one of many that I produce prior to starting a larger pastel painting. It is a study of figures "braving the elements" that I did whilst working on location in the centre of Funchal, in Madiera. I used Unision and Daler-Rowney pastels on Sennelier 'La Carte' pastel card.
Eostre - Pen & alcohol ink, pencil & pastel. Eostre is the Germanic goddess of dawn and awakening, celebrated at the spring equinox, reinforcing the pattern of life. She is believed to appear in the shape of a hare. In my drawing she is seen against a stylised representation of the sun whose rays are pattern upon pattern. I have used pen, alcohol ink, pencil and pastel pencils. It seems appropriate to have her helping to raise money for the World Land Trust.
