Somerville (Edith Oenone) [1858-1949] The Elephant and the Swordfish, pastel on grey paper, 10" x 14", signed monogram l.r.; an original illustration for her celebrated children's book 'The Story of the Discontented Little Elephant,' [1912], showing the elephant in full flight after part of his trunk was bitten off, the swordfish watching from the river. Edith Oenone Somerville, (1858 - 1949)Pastel Drawing: A Naughty Little Elephant, 28cms x 37cms (11" x 14 1/2"), signed with initials, & framed. This original pastel appears as illustration No. 1, in Somerville's classic children's book "The Discontented Little Elephant," sm. oblong folio L. 1912. (1)Provenance: Purchased by The Neptune Gallery in 1964 at the sale in London of Edith Somerville's papers & artwork. It was subsequently purchased by the present owner at an exhibition of her work at The Neptune Gallery in Dublin in 1965.
A Dior New York Japonism brocaded lamé sheath, mid 1960s, labelled to skirt, with integral black tulle corset, woven with vertically banded green satin and gold bamboo columns entwined with pastel blossom, bust 86cm, 34in CONDITION REPORT: Slight tarnishing at underarms. Good condition, very fresh.
A George III mahogany longcase clock the hood with swept top, fret cut with ball and spire finials and glazed panel under, the arched hood enclosing an arched dial decorated with gilt patera and scrolling leafage, the spandrels with pastel blue patera, chapter ring with Roman and Arabic numerals, subsidiary seconds dial and month aperture, inscribed Spendlove, Thetford, blued steel hands, twin train movement striking on a bell, the hood flanked by a pair of brass stop fluted tapered brass capped pillars, figured arched trunk door with shallow skirted figured panelled base with shaped apron, 242cm high, Circa 1780
