Attributed to Ellis Shaw (20th century)- 'View Between Glossop and Hayfield' Pastel and gouache, bears hand written label verso, and trade label for the Picture Shop, 7 Clarence Arcade, Stamford Street, Ashton-Under-Lyne, Lancashire, approx 34x64cm, mounted and framed NB: Ellis Shaw and other art friends founded the Saddleworth group of artists in 1950 to promote the study of fine arts and hold meetings and exhibitions. They rented the top floor of a house in Spring Street, Upper Mill, where, besides organising exhibitions and life classes, they held workshops funded by the Carnegie Trust, the Oldham artist James Flitton RA, and LS Lowry, who took a keen interest in the group and came to all the exhibitions, were among the many well known tutors.
