Alice Neave The Birds Pastel and Watercolour on Paper Signed on Verso 10 x 15cm (3¾ x 5¾ in.) About Themes deriving from the natural world, grief, and fertility have dominated Neave's work in recent years. Like most artists, Neave is very affected by her environment and these ruminations on grief, especially, have led to a preoccupation with place and limbo; a depiction of an environment that one recognises but cannot name. Neave sees painting as a language to get to the crux of the matter, communicating common human emotion & sentiments, whilst simultaneously managing to subvert the obvious. Alice Neave was born & educated in the UK, completing a BA in Fine Art from the university of Leeds in 2010. Since then, she has exhibited consistently including a solo show at Public Gallery in London in 2018. Having spent a lot of time living & painting in the Poitou Charente region of France, she now works from her studio in South East London on the Thames and completed the Turps Banana correspondence course in 2021.   Education Turps Correspondence Course, 20/21 BA Fine Art, University of Leeds, 2010 Foundation Diploma, Arts Institute at Bournemouth, 2007   Select Exhibitions/Awards Long listed for the Jacksons Painting prize 2020 Neave works with many galleries and curators on a show-by-show basis.   Statement about AOAP Submitted Artwork These pieces were all made with the idea of space and place in mind. Mandy Franca Dusk I Textile, Oil Pastel and C Type on Paper Signed on Verso 15 x 10cm (5¾ x 3¾ in.) About As a multidisciplinary artist Mandy Franca researches the influence of the digital realm on artefacts, mundanity and the influence of migration. Franca's work is an ongoing investigation into the notion of interconnectedness, drawing from life experiences which are informed by growing up in a cross-cultural environment and her personal archive. Mandy actively researches and observes the meaning of mundanity to give eternal value to seemingly insignificant places and objects. As a result, the notion of preserving languages, traditions, domestic settings and everyday objects in a state of flux - meaning - digital and physical due to digitalization and globalization, takes precedence in her work. Franca's priority is to bring the individual experience into a broader communal context and show the parallels between our common needs, objects and experiences with the notion of care as a fundamental aspect of being. As an artist she subverts and challenges the traditional application of printmaking by experimenting with a range of artistic mediums which intersect at painting, photography, print, drawing, collage, video, sculpture and installation using the photographic image and mark-making as a recurring element. With these techniques Franca wants to challenge ideas of digital materiality, painting and the reproductive image.   Education 2018 - 2020: Master of Arts (Distinction) | Print | Royal College of Art | London, UK 2011 - 2016: Bachelor of Arts | Fashion | Willem de Kooning Academy | Rotterdam, NL 2005 - 2009: Vocational Education | Media Design | Graphic Lyceum | Rotterdam, NL   Select Exhibitions/Awards 2021: Sequences 05 | Group Exhibition | The Who Gallery 2021: Warm Vessels in Search at Sunset | Group Exhibition | Harlesden High School 2021: Hotsheet 2020 | Group Exhibition | Downstairs Brixton 2021: Holding Space | Group Exhibition | Subject Matter 2020: Lick the Future | Collection/Group Exhibition | Where's the Frame 2020: London Grads Now - Royal College of Art | Group Exhibition | Saatchi Gallery 2020: Royal College of Art & Slade External Degree Show | Group Exhibition | Kristin Hjellegjerde Gallery 2020: In Touch | Virtual Group Show | Danielle Arnaud Gallery 2020: Final, Not Over: Session 3 | Group Exhibition | Unit 1 Gallery Workshop 2020: Against the Grain | Group Exhibition | Southwark Park Galleries 2019: 20:20 Insight | Group Exhibition | Soho Revue Gallery GRANTS/AWARDS 2020 - Augustus Martin Prize 2020 - HIGH prize for Creative Excellence (shortlisted) 2019 - Koningin Sophiafonds 2019 - Fundatie van de Vrijvrouwe van Renswoude 2018 - Prins Bernhard Cultuurfonds   Statement about AOAP Submitted Artwork For Art on a Postcard, Mandy Franca made a series of 3 cards with the title Dusk. Bunmi Agusto Aruaro (In Blue and Green) Pastel Pencil on Sandpaper, Ink and Watercolour on Paper Signed on Verso 15 x 10cm (5¾ x 3¾ in.) About Bunmi Agusto's practice follows the inhabitants of a surrealist wonderland in her mind called Within. The indigenous inhabitants of this world are hybrids whose human form is combined with elements she finds integral to her sense of self and cultural consciousness. Non-Hybrid humans are also present in Within as family members, friends and passersby in the artist's waking life are subsumed into the world through encounters and begin to occupy the role of immigrants into her mind. Her works therefore explore cultural theory and the evolution of selfhood through the lens of fantasy. She cites stories such as Amos Tutuola's The Palm Wine Drinkard, Lewis Carroll's Alice In Wonderland and the Marvel Cinematic Universe as major influences. She also works predominantly with pastel pencils and mixed media. I started my art education in 1998 at the Moscow State Academy Art Lyceum of The Russian Academy of Arts. I believe that a large part of my knowledge and skill was developed at the lyceum. The Surikov Art Institute was a logical progression of my academic training. I got admitted into the Faculty of Painting and after my 2nd year, I got accepted into the Department of Monumental Art. There, I learnt various techniques such as making church frescos, mosaics, breadboarding etc. Following graduation, I have focused a substantial amount of my time on teaching fine art to eager students, running a YouTube Art Channel, and recently publishing a 'self-teach' art book based on my teaching methods in Russia. The most important aspect is the character of each personage and tone. I like to work on different pieces with different technologies simultaneously. I was also an artist in residence on a research vessel between Newfoundland and Iceland back in 2006.   Gallery Representation Candida Stevens Gallery   Statement about AOAP Submitted Artwork Being International Women's Day I looked for a subject that fitted, a deviation from my landscape-based work. I chose Little Amal, the 3.5 metre high puppet who 'walked' with puppeteers from Syria to Manchester on an art project called The Walk to highlight the urgent needs of young refugees. I feel she represents the many marginalised women having to deal with life under dire circumstances.

Helen Walsh Blue Shimmer Pen, Pastel and Collage on Paper Signed on Verso 15 x 10cm (5¾ x 3¾ in.) About I am fascinated by the natural world, our connection to it and our place within it. I am interested in our desire to transcend, to move beyond what we know. The cycle of the seasons and of life change accordingly and I am interested in moving my practice forward through exploring this dichotomy. Birds and feathers are an important element in my creative practice. I'm inspired by the way they move, their plumage, their otherness. They are freer; their ability to fly suggests a means of escape, implying there is something to escape from. They are symbols of transcendence, linking the physical to the spiritual world. This theme occurs in myths and stories across cultures and throughout history. In my practice they represent us, our spirits and a desire to transcend and change. Drawing is a central element of my practice, it is the starting point and a means of creation in itself. I use drawing to research, explore and explain. Drawing is an excellent method of communication and I use a variety of drawing techniques in my participatory practice to support participants to explore and develop ideas. Increasing awareness of our impact on the environment and our responsibilities draws me to work more with natural materials. Creating my own dyes from responsibly foraged materials connects my work to the land; adding another layer to the spiral of connection. Drawing feathers allows me to explore this dichotomy and our relationship with the natural world.
