1920's Quilted Child's Quilt, Possibly American, with scalloped edging, the off-white ground appliquéd with an unusual design of ballerinas, ballet shoes, wands and crowns in pastel colours, within a pink border of swags and bows, padded, backed with pink and cream cotton and bordered with the same, 204cm by 164cm approx; together with a 19th Century Cream and Pink Quilt, one side with cream centre, cream corners around panels of pink elsewhere, the reverse with pink centre, 212cm by 228cm approx (2)
Early 19th Century Very Large Chintz Quilt, pieces together in stripes of varying widths and fabrics, alternating from deep purples to pastel shades, variously including flowers, birds, leaves, backed in cream linen, quilted all over, fans to corners, general waffle design with central circle, 240cm by 240cm approx; together with a tiny Pin Cushion in a Grandmother's flower garden shape, 6.5cm diameter (2) Generally sound and strong, however there are large stains throughout and wear of top layer through to backing, mostly concentrated at one end but on other areas also.
1930's Full Length Black Evening Dress and Matching Bolero Jacket, of a silk like fabric embroidered with small pastel flowers, the dress with cap sleeves, hook and eye fastening to side, a deep frill to last third of skirt in plain fabric, the jacket with embroidered collar; 1940's Handa Black Long Jacket, slightly longer at rear, with lapel front, metal and diamante decorated waist fastening, ruched shoulders, lined in pink cotton; and a 1940's/1950's Taupe Crepe Dress, with elbow length sleeves, satin silk trim to waist in different shade and covered buttons, lined in coffee coloured fabric (3)Dress and jacket - good order for age, slight soiling to both garments underarms. Handa jacket - fading in places, hem needs re-securing, under arms a little crumpled. Taupe dress - very slight fading to underarms, a couple of tiny catches to fabric which have been darned.
Mid-19th Century Large Patchwork Quilt, large central block of white cotton spotted in red bordered with red and filled with red diamonds, surrounded by four blocks of triangles in pastel colours, mainly small motif Victorian dress fabrics, finished with a final deep border of an overall pink cotton, backed in fine cream cotton and quilted through both layers, 240cm by 212cm approxMany of the pastel triangles show signs of discolouration. Generally sound, no obvious substantial wear. There are sporadic puzzling 'shadows' of red discolouration which do not seem to relate to colour transference.
Late 19th Century Chinese Cream Silk Panel, embroidered in pastel shades with buildings, birds, six figures wearing intricately embroidered robes, one holding a fan, another holding a cat by it's tail, seamed in middle (currently undone), 46cm by 176cm (overall); together with a Chinese Embroidered Panel, in orange and blue; a further Embroidered Panel, in pink silk with colourful flowers and foliage, some of which is couched metal thread; a 20th Century Indian Olive Green Satin Panel, deep border from an earlier textile; Eastern Mustard Silk Panel, embroidered with flowers and foliage in a metal thread on wool (a.f.); an English Floral Woolwork Panel, on a mid blue ground; a Silk Panel, the teal silk central panel woven with metal threads, probably Persian, bordered with two other designs of woven silks, probably French; an elaborately bobbled furnishing trim, in yellow and blue; and two tie back tassels Chinese cream silk embroidered panels - has been removed from a frame and with wear to borders, a couple of small holes, overall good for age.
Mid-19th Century Chinese Canton Black and Gold Lacquer Ivory Faces Fan, one side depicting a gathering of many robed gentlemen, some carrying fans, one arriving on a white horse, the verso decorated with a later gathering of ladies and gentlemen, also carrying fans, the fan gorge intricately lacquered with a scene of buildings, figures and auspicious symbols, contained in original black and gold lacquer box with blue silk lining painted with flowers and birds, bearing retailed label of Lee Ching, Canton (lock to case defective); together with a Mid-19th Century Canton Fan, decorated with black and gold lacquer and ivory faces, depicting served refreshments and music being played at a social gathering, the double paper leaf in plain ruby red; and a Mid-Late 19th Century Large Bone Brisé Fan, featuring a regular design, replacement ribbon (3)Chinese Canton fan - double paper leaf, nicks to top of all folds, several split folds have received some tape restoration, folds generally rubbed, lacquer to sticks is clean and in good order, lacquer on box slightly chipped to corners and edges. Canton fan - unusual colouration to the seam on the leaf, being of brighter and more pastel colours than on the first fan, nicks to the top of each fold, some rubbing on the fold, verso - the leaf has received some crude restoration with tape and paint. Bone - nineteen sticks, slightly warped.
