§ Joan Kathleen Harding Eardley, RSA (Scottish, 1921-1963) A Young Boy Reading signed 'Joan Eardley' (lower left) pastel and chalk on paper 38.50 x 35cm (15 x 14in) Exhibited: Edinburgh, Aitken Dott & Son (The Scottish Gallery), label to verso (details untraced)Some small smudges towards the top right corner, although this may have been part of the original image. Minor undulations to the paper, otherwise it appears in good condition.
§ Elizabeth Spurr (British, fl. 1930-1940) The Roundabout signed 'Elizabeth Spurr' (lower right); inscribed to verso with the artist's studio address gouache and pastel 44 x 39cm (17 x 15in) Provenance: Acquired by Hertfordshire County Council on the 30th May, 1947 (label verso) Tear to the surface towards the top right corner (approx. 3 inches).

To include, 'Javea' by Norma Blair, 11 x 13 inches, 'Cuatro Estaciones II' by Carlos Rojas, 11 x 13 inches and 'Velero Horizontal' by San Juan, 11 x 13 inches. Together with five A4 folders containing various pastel, pencil, ink and watercolour sketches along with photocopied drawings and illustrations. Please see accompanying image.
John Russell R.A. (British, 1745-1806), portrait of Gervase Elam (see below) sealing a letter next to a lit wax jack, pastel on paper, signed and dated 1801 top left, 99cm x 79cm, in original gilt-wood frame.Note; John Russell was born in Guildford, where his father was five times mayor. He was baptized in the ruins of Holy Trinity Church, and educated at the local grammar school before winning premiums at the Society of Arts in 1759 and 1760, having studied under Francis Cotes R.A. He exhibited at the Royal Academy from 1769 until his death in 1806. This picture is said to have been illustrated in George Charles Williamson's book, John Russell RA, publ 1894 as being in the collection of Miss Sedgwick, of Thorns Hall, Sedburgh (now a hotel). This was a 19th century Elam family owned house and the vendor confirms that Miss Sedgwick was a companion to John Elam's family.Provenance; Gervase Elam was a member of a large Quaker family prominent in selling cloth to America. There were strong family connections to Rhode Island. He died in 1823. The picture passed through the family to Margaret Isabella Sedgwick (see above), who was executor of the estate of Lucy Elam, and was the great aunt of the current vendor. . Examined under glass and not removed from frame. Overall condition appears good. Appears to have moved within the frame (see additional images).

DANIEL GARDNER (1750-1805) PORTRAIT OF MRS SAMUEL SHORE, NEE URITH OFFLEY (1736-1781) OF NORTON HALL pastel, oval, 30 x 25cm. Urith Offley, the daughter of Joseph Offley of Norton Hall, Derbyshire married on 15 March 1759 at St Margarets Westminster, Samuel Shore (1738-1828). Another autograph version of the same portrait by Garnder was sold in these 'rooms, 12 June 2015, lot 1081. A pair of Continental bisque figures, children, decorated in pastel shades. Height 33 cm. CONDITION REPORT: The head of the guitar has been broken and is missing. Otherwise there appear to be no other faults on this figure. The accompanying figure has the pipe missing from the boys hands. Both figure have very light gilt rubbing.
