Attributed to Terrick John Williams R.A., R.I., R.O.I., R.W.A., R.B.C. (1860-1936). Fishing Boats and Other Shipping in a Harbour. Inscribed with the artist's name on the stretcher verso, oil on canvas, 51cm by 61cm. Trained under the landscape artist J Buxton-Knight (1842-1908). He spent two years in Antwerp as a pupil of Charles Verlat. He published the books "Landscape Painting in Oil Colour" and "The Art of Pastel". See illustration
Mick Cawston (British, 1959-2006), Studies of a Springer Spaniel, a Weimaraner, a Greyhound, an English Setter, a Black Labrador, Terriers and Hounds, signed lower right "Mick Cawston 1987", oil on canvas, 51 x 102cm (19.89 x 39.78in). Mick Cawston is considered to be one of the finest dog and wildlife painters of the 20th Century. His portrayal of the character and individual qualities of different animals is superb. Born in Dagenham in Essex in 1959, he won his first painting exhibition at the age of seven. He joined the Army after leaving school but throughout his time there his passion remained drawing and sketching. Upon leaving the Army, he spent six months in Covent Garden, sketching children in pastel at no. 3 per time. He worked equally well in oils, watercolours or pastels. He was the winner of the Fine Art Trade Guild Competition in 1998. Latterly he lived at Lynton in Exmoor where he regularly exhibited and painted local sporting scenes. He was a member of the Society of Equestrian Artists and sadly died at a young age in 2006. Mick Cawston's paintings are widely admired and are in collections and museums around the world
