The recto features a variety of scenes with couples paying homage to various goddesses, to include possibly Athena. Silver metal loop and red silk tassel. Guard length 29cm. A central gorge stick absent and a repair noted to the one next to the gap. The leaf shows some effects of this. Slight loss to the mop on the upper section of the lower guard. Probable replacement to the mop on the upper guard, colour slightly different.

Lot 443

The verso is plain, save for colour to the ribs. Guard length 24.5cm. Together with a J Duvelleroy card fan box. Clean and sound.

Lot 446

A Late 19th Century Ivory Fan, with elaborate monture, gilded and silvered, carved and pierced, and double paper leaf. The recto features an elegant couple and daughter outside a simple cottage, in front of which a young girl uses a spinning wheel. The reserves are simply decorated with pale pink roses and gilding. The verso is relatively plain, in cream with pastel flowers and gilding, this gilding perhaps forming a name in the centre, ROSA? Guard length 27cm; and A 19th Century Bone Fan, with inlaid monture, lightly incised linear designs being offset by shiny silver roundels that glint in the light. The double silk leaf, in cream, is embroidered overall with tiny silver metal sequins, slightly larger and oval sequins forming flowers to embellish the top border. A simple narrow bobbin lace border is attached to the top edge of the leaf. The metal loop is finished with a cream silk tassel. Guard length 28cm (2). Fan 1 - Some slight splitting to upper folds. Fan 2 - The bone is dirty, some losses to the inlay, some losses to the sequins and some of the oval ones are tarnished.

Lot 454

A 19th Century Ivory Fan, the monture carved and pierced and painted in pastel colours to complement the mainly pastel shades used to paint the pastoral scene on the double leaf. A young man plays the bagpipes to his lady. This central scene continues down into the painted gorge. The gorge is further painted with two side vignettes, one with a young man, the other a maiden, and smaller ovals feature bows and arrows. The verso is plain. Barrel rivet. Guard length 21.cvm. Together with a good fan box lined in yellow velvet, the exterior of light brown leather, with gold scrolling detail. Minor staining to the leaf best seen from the verso. Some rubbing to the paint on the lower guard.

The cream leaf mounted à l'Anglaise is painted in fairly pastel colours with, possibly, David and Abigail, and two further side vignettes each painted with a lady in the countryside. Flowers and light gilding to the reserves. Guard length 28cm; and A Mid-18th Century Bone Fan, with the velum leaf mounted à l'Anglaise, the guards and gorge carved, pierced and gilded, the leaf plain to the verso, the recto depicting a pastoral scene of two women and one seated gentleman, the latter at ease whilst listening to gentle music. The reserves feature side vignettes, the borders gilded, one with bees and a hive, with fruits of the fields, the other with a bird within a gilded cage, birdcage and similar country produce. The verso has a pastel painting of a traveller and a flower seller. Guard length 27cm; and A Mid-18th Century Ivory Fan, with carving to the upper guards and linear gilding to the gorge. The double paper leaf, découpé, is painted in the centre with a couple seated each side of a table, playing a game. To each side a further painting, one of a young girl and the other a young man. Interspersed with the découpage are rows of roses climbing up poles. The verso is painted with three simple outdoor scenes. Guard length 26.5cm (2). Fan 1 - The upper guard is detached from the leaf. Splitting to a few folds. Grubby. Fan 2 - Losses to and dulling of the gilding. Some splits to the folds, some repaired. Some small stains seem from the verso.
