Signed, oil on board.90.5cm x 121cm (35.75in x 47.75in)Footnote: * Nadeem Chughtai was born in 1973 and grew up in the suburbs of South London. He has been selling his artwork since the age of fifteen when he negotiated a deal to produce hand-drawn posters in exchange for free membership to his local squash club. Nadeem has been working independently as an artist since 2005. The Nowhere Man, the faceless and emotive character that features throughout his work and are depicted en masse in "Breakthrough", was partly inspired by the miniature scale figures Nadeem observed in architectural drawings on the film sets. Over the years the Nowhere Man has drawn on and absorbed Nadeem’s life experiences and has evolved into an enduring character that is able to subtly convey the emotions of both the artist and the viewer. In a recent announcement on the artist's website sadly the Nowhere Man is not going to feature in future works by the artist - 'I have an announcement to make that has taken me by surprise and I appreciate may also come as a bit of a shock to some of you. The character that has appeared in almost all of my work up until now, also known as the Nowhere Man, has left us. It happened in an instant, almost without warning this week. The moment I realised was upon completing the first two of these three final pastel pieces'.Artists’ Resale Right (“droit de suite”) may apply to this lot.Condition report: The painting is in very good, original condition with no obvious faults to report. The painting is framed but not glazed. The frame has some minor scuffs and knocks commensurate with age.

In a career just a year long, he ran ten times and won eight races. He was the outstanding European racehorse of 1986, winning the 2,000 Guineas, Eclipse, King George VI & Queen Elizabeth Stakes and Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe. In the Derby, Greville Starkey employed exaggerated waiting tactics on him resulting in a half-length defeat by Shahrastani. Pat Eddery replaced Starkey in the King George and in his remaining three races.
