* Boughton (George Henry, 1833-1905). Head-and-shoulders study of a young woman, pastel on paper, signed, 25.5 x 18cm (10 x 7ins), period beaded gilt frame, glazed. George Henry Boughton, the British-American painter and illustrator, was born near Norwich, but emigrated to America with his family in 1839. He studied in Paris for two years from 1859, under Edward May, a pupil of Thomas Couture, and later with Edouard Fr?re. He settled in London in 1862, exhibiting regularly at the Royal Academy, of which he was elected a member in 1896. A memorial exhibition of his work was held at the Leicester Galleries in 1905, and his studio contents were sold at Christies on 15 June 1908. (1)
* Goodwin (Albert, 1845-1932). The College, Winchester, watercolour and pastel on paper, signed and titled, 24.5 x 36cm (9.6 x 14.25ins), framed and glazed. Albert Goodwin (1845-1932) was one of the most important followers of Turner, and amongst the last of the great Victorian travelling artists. He was one of the first to use a pen-line in combination with watercolour wash. (1)
