An extremely rare painted wood teapot form tea caddy, early 19th century, oval form, parcel gilt decoration with a fan patera on a 'mahogany' brown ground, the hinged lid with turned finial to a foil lined interior, 7in. (17.8 cm.) high, 9in. (22.8cm.) long. * Condition: Very small old hairline splits to lid above hinge (please see photo). These are totally stable and do not affect the integrity of the hinge attachment. The lid has a very slight smile, which is only noticeable under close inspection. Old surface marks throughout but very little actual wear to brown paint. Some wear to gilding. Overall in good, very original condition.
A Victorian provincial silver caddy spoon, probably Thomas Wheatley, Newcastle 1857, fiddle pattern with scallop shell bowl, 3¾in. (9.5cm.) long; together with a modern Scottish sifter spoon, Francis Howard, Edinburgh 1988, with pierced thistle terminal, 4¼in. (10.7cm.) long, weight 0.9 tr.oz. (2) * Condition: Rubber band masrk to centre of stem on the Howard example. Newcastle spoon good with good marks. Engraved initials to terminal.
A Chinese silver export tea caddy, late 19th/early 20th century, Wang Hing maker's mark and '90' purity mark, lobed quatrefoil form, the rounded panels with raised prunus tree design on matted ground, short cylinder collar with conforming lid, on four stepped bracket feet, 5in. (12.75cm.) high, weight 4.3 tr.oz. * Condition: Marks clear. Neck pushed slightly sideways which has dented one side of top face inwards a little. Otherwise good.
A Chinese export silver twin handled sugar bowl, early 20th century, maker CW, also with '85' and character mark, cup form with Monteith style rim, twin scroll handles, on flared foot, engraved with Chinese landscapes, 2 5/8in. (6.7cm.) high; together with a Wang Hing Co. silver tea spoon with bamboo handle; a miniature silver goblet by Kwan Wo, 3 1/8in. (8cm.) high; two sets of six silver cocktail sticks, possibly by Tien Shing; a Zee Sung silver plated cigarette case; and a silver plated caddy or sugar spoon. (17) * Condition: - Sugar bowl: Good condition, with no damage or restoration.- Tea spoon: Good condition, with no damage or restoration.- Goblet: Good condition, with no damage or restoration.- Cocktail sticks: Good condition, with no damage or restoration.- Cigarette case: Good condition, with no damage or restoration.- Caddy or sugar spoon: Some wear to plating, exposing the copper beneath.
Two 19th century Chinese Imari porcelain tea caddies, of elongated octagonal form with cylindrical necks and covers, decorated in the Imari palette, one with flowering Prunus branches, raised on corner feet; the other with clobbered decoration, both 4¾in. (12cm.) high. (2) * Condition: Some gilt wear to both. Clobbered example has large chip and three glaze chips to base, plus extensive glaze chipping to top edge and one corner of body (due to air bubbles in body beneath). Cover broken in two and glued. The other caddy has three large glaze chips to lower edge and small air bubble hole to glaze to top edge of body. Cover has several small glaze chips to edges.
A Japanese porcelain tea caddy, early 20th century, rectangular box form body decorated with panels of avian subjects amongst branches front and verso, side panels with floral design, short circular collar with stopper of waisted form surmounted with rectangular concave edged lifter decorated with gilt fern, demi-lune scale reserves and a central panel with character marks, 4½in. (11.5cm.) high. * Condition: Although original the stopper is loose fitting, minor rubbing to gilt. Tiny chip to top edge of body. Inside of neck has a rough edge at bottom - flaw in the making.
A Japanese maki-e lacquered caddy, Meiji period (1868-1912), rectangular form, removable lid with gilt decoration of two fan tailed tortoises on fine waved ground, a removable tray seated upon interior rim having stork and pine tree landscape decoration, supported on four bracket feet, the main interior finished with nashiji ground, exterior bearing pine tree and seascape design with storks in flight, 7¼ x 4½in. (8.4 x 11.4cm.), 5in. (12.7cm.) high; together with a conforming design maki-e lacquer miniature barrel form pot, 2¾in. (7cm.) high; and a three compartment cylinder form miniature Jubako, 3in. (7.6cm.) high. (3) * Condition: - Caddy: Tiny ding to front of lid and small semi-circular ding to front of base. Tiny flake from one corner of base. Very good overall.- Barrel form pot: Very good condition. May lack base.- Jubako: Very good condition.
A Regency mahogany teapoy, circa 1815, the hinged lid with stepped moulded edge over a concave sarcophagus body, the interior fitted with two compartments to the left side each bearing a removable hinged lid caddy, the remainder of the interior bears a mixing compartment with a perforated base metal strainer, stepped moulded frieze with the right hand side concealing a pull out tray, seated upon a reeded pillar with petal carved lower section, supported on a quatreform base resting on tapered bun feet, 32in. (81.25cm.) high.
A good early George III silver rectangular tea caddy and cover of bombe outline, the whole boldly embossed and chased with central cartouche with floral and C-scroll borders, the sides embossed and chased with chinoiserie style figures within C-scroll borders and with conforming domed cover with cast flowerhead finial and on cast and pierced leaf scroll pattern panel feet, 3.75ins x 3ins x 5.25ins high, by Samuel Herbert & Co, London 1761 (weight 9.5ozs - front engraved with contemporary armorial)
