Thomas Cottle, Crewkerne, an oak longcase clock the eight-day duration movement striking the hours on a bell with the twelve-inch square brass dial having a raised chapter ring engraved with black Roman hour numerals and signed at VI o'clock for the maker Thos. Cottle, Crewkern, with the matted centre having a subsidiary seconds dial, date aperture and engraved decoration, with cast-brass floral corner spandrels, the oak case with caddy top, turned three-quarter columns to the hood and a double-plinth to the base, height 228cm.Thomas Cottle is recorded as working in Crewkerne, Somerset from at least 1765 until circa 1825 and is known to have looked after various parish church clocks in the area.Reference Thomas Moore The Clockmakers of Somerset Pub.
