A Hilditch & Son tea cup and saucer, circa 1840-49, decorated in apple green and gilt, printed mark Sparks by appointment to her Majesty Queen Adelaide & The Duchess of Kent, Worcester four Moorcroft blue glazed plates, eight Limoges floral decorated plates and other ceramics (qty). A Sevres style tea caddy, painted with floral bouquet reserve panels, lacks cover, a Clignancourt cornflower decorated plate, a pair of similar plates and a smaller Derby example (5).
A 19th.century straw-work tea caddy, possibly from the Napoleonic era French P.O.W. camp at Norman Cross, the lid with sides curved in at the top to a central panel of floral coloured "micromosaic" straw-work, the "tessera" about 1mm. square. On each side there is a different pattern of equally fine work. The interior is lined with foil, possibly a later addition. The condition is generally good, losses being confined to the plainer decoration on the edges, the complex patterning on sides and top undamaged. 15x12x12cm. high.

A Continental silver caddy spoon bears import marks for William Geiger, London 1904:, the circular bowl with engraved decoration of a fisherman and his wife carrying baskets, the stem in the form of a waterspout flanked by dolphins and surmounted by a fishing boat terminal, 11.5cm long, 1.3oz
Thomas Hully, London and Edward Foster, Carlisle, a marquetry longcase clock: the eight-day duration, weight-driven movement now striking the hours on a gong, the break-arch brass dial having a raised chapter ring engraved with black Roman numerals and fleur-de-lys half-hour markings, with engraved decoration and signed within a scroll Edward Foster, Carlisle, with cast brass 'female-head' spandrels, the arch having a round brass boss engraved with the name Thomas Hully,London, with decoration blued steel hands, the walnut case inlaid with floral marquetry decoration to the trunk door and base, with barley-twist columns to the hood, a caddy top and standing on bracket feet, height 225cms.* Biography Edward Foster was a member of a prominent clockmaking family whose members worked in Carlisle, Whitehaven and London. Edward was born in circa 1727, married in circa 1754 and died in 1809 and was recorded as being 'an outstanding maker' whose sons John, Henry, Thomas, William and Richard also became clockmakers, as did grandsons Robert, Thomas and William, the latter moving to London where he died in 1830. A number of fine longcase clocks are known signed either E. or Edward Foster and often without seconds dials.*Notes Exhibited. Leeds City Art Gallery, 1930.
