The silvered dial appears intact as does the mercury thermometer. The dial has some signs of dirt to the surface particularly to the inner section. There is some scratching to the surface of the paintwork on the mother of pearl Singer's compass dial - see images for further detail. The hand appears to be bent on the barometer dial - see images for further detail

An Australian silver caddy spoon. John Harris (Harris & Son), Perth (Western Australia), Mid 20th century. Stamped 925, the parcel gilt terminal decorated with three flowers of Geraldton Wax, the handle engraved to reverse with name of the botanical species, 12.7cm long, in fitted case. Together with a group of British silver items, comprising: two George III Fiddle pattern serving spoons, London, 1809, Thomas Wilkes Barker, engraved with initial and crest to terminal, 22cm long; a small Victorian cream jug, Birmingham, 1897, Elkington & Co., with half lobed body, on an oval foot, 10.7cm wide; a further cream jug, Birmingham, 1911, Joseph Gloster, the half lobed body raised on an oval foot, 7cm high (inc. handle); a salt cellar, Birmingham, 1919, Abrahams Brothers, of circular form, on three paw feet, with clear glass liner, 9.5cm dia.; and a small Victorian trowel (handle deficient), London, 1882, 11cm long, total weighable silver approx. 9.9ozt (7)  Footnotes: Harris & Son is a family firm founded in Perth, Western Australia, in 1921 by the brothers Charles and Harold who relocated there from England. Lot 1237

A Victorian ebonised cabinet, with carved figureheads to each side, the lid lifting to a mirrored centre and with thin metal panels to either side with classical scenes, the fold down front opening to various drawers, secret compartments with the same thin metal panelled fronts. Height +/- 30 cm, width 34.5 cm, depth 23 cm (see illustration). CONDITION REPORT: The casket is in generally good condition with only minor issues. The caddy top slides to the right to an open interior. The left-hand return moulding of the very top lid is missing and there are shrinkage gaps at the corners. There is a piece of moulding missing at the front right-hand corner of the top. The cabinet top below the caddy has minor stress fractures. The hinges appear to be original. The mirror to the underside of the top is beginning to perish and the panels left and right are a little bit discoloured. The forefront is not warped. The lock is present but we do not have the key. The metal foil to the panel above the double open aperture is folded in places and worn with losses, the right-hand panel has a loss and nibbles to the edge and the left one also. The drawers fronts also have minor losses to the foil fronts. The surround to the slope front has losses to the metal foil. The flap is not warped. The sides of the piece are in generally good order with only minor stress fractures. The front left-hand canted angle at the base has small losses and nibbles to the corners above the turned feet. The fall front has a sliver of ebony missing bottom left corner. The rear left-hand corner return moulding is missing around the rear bracket and there are minor nibbles to the extremities.
