Of Victorian theatrical interest - a rare Victorian silver heart-shaped box depicting a portrait of W. S. Penley in the title role of Charley's Aunt - engraved 'To Maud Freer, from Charley's Aunt December 21st 1895', hallmarked - London 1895, maker - Walker & Hall, Sheffield, 5.5cm. These boxes were given to ladies in the audience of the third anniversary performance at the Globe Theatre in London. However, this particular box was given to Maud Freer, who was the second wife of Lord William Cecil The 3rd Marquess of Exeter. She was either the niece or family friend of William Penley (1852 - 1912), the actor who created the role of Lord Fancourt Babberley and Charley's Aunt. The lot is sold with an inscribed photograph of Penley playing Charley's Aunt, signed in ink on reverse 'With Uncle Willies Love to Maud Oct 12th 1895', 16.5cm x 11cm and French's Acting Edition of The Importance of being Earnest Copyright 1893 (3)
Early Victorian rosewood card table, rounded rectangular hinged top, enclosing circular baize-lined playing surface with well below, on C-scroll carved frieze and bulbous knopped column on quadruped carved cabriole legs and castors, 90cm wide x 48cm deep x 78cm high CONDITION REPORT Top with one long horizontal split running most of the width, further splits to moulded edge. Interior of top with some horizontal splits to veneer, baize is replaced, damage (break and repair) to central frieze terminal- at lowest point, top is slightly faded but basically good colour

1949-50 WALES INTERNATIONAL FOOTBALL JERSEY MATCH-WORN BY AUBREY POWELL v BELGIUM Condition: superb condition considering its age with only small pin-holes from display and no notable damage, complete with excellent felt badge and No.10 stitched to the reverse Provenance: Cwmtwrch RFC (Powell was from the village) Aubrey Powell (1918-2009) had a football career which was one of unfulfilled potential - he fractured his leg in the early part of his career so was out for 18 months, a year later WWII broke out to interrupt his playing career further. He was an inside-forward capped by Wales eight times. He played most of his club football for Leeds and Everton.
