NEWTON HEATH / MANCHESTER UNITED Football trophy dated 1886 and inscribed "Newton Heath C & F C 1886". This probable silver plate trophy on a wooden base details a football above a playing pitch and has a separate lid which is adorned with a footballer with a ball at his feet.. The pitch has a metal "rope-style" boundary which is partly missing and the other side of the wooden base has the makers mark which research by the vendor indicates to be that of Henry Bourne of Birmingham. The ball is suspended on a four legged tower above the pitch and whilst it is not known what the trophy is for, it should be noted that Newton Heath won the Manchester Cup in 1886 . This is not that trophy but we would suggest that it is possible that this trophy may commemorate the winning of that trophy. Newton Heath also held annual Sports days and trophies were awarded for the winning of the various contests, but it is thought that this trophy is more likely to be a Club trophy of some sort. Newton Heath were formed in 1878m and became Manchester United in 1902 after financial problems,, it would be ironic if United went back to being called Newton Heath in view of many fans adopting their colours in view of somewhat more recent, unexpected, financial problems. Newton Heath became members of the Football League in 1892. The trophy including the base and the lid is 13 " ( 34cm ) tall and 7" (17cm) long, 4.5 " (12cm) wide, each measurement being at the highest/longest/widest points.. Obviously very rare and part of the long history of this famous Club. Generally good
Mosley and the British fascists typewritten letter signed to Arnold Leese from Admiral Sir Barry Domville who was sent to Brixton Prison under Rule 18b dated May 3rd 1949 discussing various people and topics and of course his anti-Semitism: ‘...they do not realise that the harm is done and that another World War will only be playing the Jews’ game. I must admit that I should be curious to see what would happen in Palestine. The efforts to confuse thought seem to be more strenuous than ever. It is difficult to blame people for being as foolish as they seem...’ together with a copy of Domville’s book ‘From Admiral to Cabin Boy’

* WWI - Prisoner of War. An album containing approx. seventy-five real photo postcards relating to the Prisoner of War Camp Schloss, Grossau bei Raabs in Austria, c. 1916-18, seemingly compiled by Walter Horwitz, including photos showing the prisoners pursuing gentrified pursuits such as ice skating, tennis, rowing, football and sometimes playing the German guards, a number of group photos including one possibly showing James Joyce’s brother Stanislaus (far right of top photo illustrated), a number of photos with inscriptions to front or verso, plus approx. forty further window-mounted postcards including some related and one addressed to Mr and Mrs Horwitz in Vienna, mounts somewhat brittle and worn, contemp. cloth backed wooden boards, the upper cover with an orig. painted view and titled ‘Souvenir of my captivity, W Horwitz’, rubbed, boards bowed and lower board split, folio. An intriguing album which reveals a stark contrast to the concentration camps of the second world war. Stanislaus Joyce (1884-1) the younger brother of the more famous James. Like James he lived in Trieste but was arrested at the beginning of World War I and interned by the Austrians, initially at Katzenau, near Linz and then later at Schloss Grossau. (1)
