A French Empire ormolu mantel clock: the eight-day duration movement striking the hours and half-hours on a bell with an outside countwheel, with a silk suspension to the pendulum, the white enamel dial with black Roman numerals and blued steel moon hands, the rectangular ormolu case with applied frieze to the front depicting young cherubs with bows either side of a classical stand, with the case surmounted by a figure of a cherub playing a harp with a bow and arrows to his side and a garland of flowers, standing on chased ormolu bun feet, height 35cm.

Attributed to John "Old Taylor" Taylor, British 1739-1838- Lady in Grecian dress playing the tambourine, with five figures dancing beyond in a landscape; watercolour and bodycolour, 52.8x36.8cm Note: John Taylor was a pupil of Hayman and at St. Martin's Lane Academy. He specialised in pencil portraits, of which he drew an enormous number, many at Oxford 1767-71. He exhibited all kinds of portraits SA 1764-77; FS 1767; RA 1778-1824; BI 1808-38, as well as many themes from literature. See Ellis Waterhouse, "British 18th Century Painters", Woodbridge, 1991, p. 366 CONDITION REPORT: mounted in a glazed modern moulding frame line and wash mount sheet has slipped in frame to reveal the top edge, appears to have been hinge-mounted although unexamined out of frame browned and time-faded overall two imperfections on the lower edge of the sheet, centre right slight tear approx. 1cm in length, lower left corner otherwise in good original condition
