Rare Early 1st Pattern British Steel Combat Helmet of the North Staffordshire Regiment with its Original Trench Cover, being the rimless pattern in the early Apple Green paint finish. The front of the shell is fitted with its original owners regimental cap badge of the North Staffordshire regiment. The shell retains much of its original paint finish to both the exterior and interior of the helmet. Correct for this type of helmet is the two piece brown leather chinstrap and the early pattern oilskin six tongue liner system. Fitted loosely to the helmet shell is its original hessian sacking four panel trench cover with turned over brim section. It looks as if some numbers have been written on the top of the cover in each panel, possibly something that has been done by children playing with the item after the war. The cover is stained and has some small holes, all of which you expect on original covers. Overall a fine example of a very rare helmet.
