The chess board and the hinges and strut are in good condition as is the tripod base with only occasional chips, scratches and dents commensurate with age.

The Book of the London International Chess Congress, 1899 The Book of the London International Chess Congress, 1899 , from a limited edition of 500 , brown cloth, gilt, London, Longmans Green and Co., 8vo, 1900. Only 500 copies of this scarce book were published. The tournament was a 15-player double round-robin, won by Lasker. There was a 3-way tie for 2nd and 4th between Janowsky, Maroczy and Pillsbury, with Schlecter coming 5th, Blackburne 6th, and Tchigorin 7th. Also playing were Showalter, Mason, Steinitz and Bird. The book contains the 186 games of the main event with a selection of sixteen games from the supporting event won by Frank Marshall.

Alexander Mark Rossi (Corfu 1870-1916 London): A boy playing with a crab on a beach with the coast beyond, oil on canvas, signed lower right, H 42 x W 34 cm. Note: Rossi was born on the Greek Island of Corfu, the son of Dr Mark Rossi, an Italian judge presiding over the Ionian Islands during the time of British rule. On a visit to Preston, England in 1866, Rossi met and later married Jane Gillow. Thereafter he remained in the United Kingdom, moving to London in the 1870s & exhibiting over 60 works at the Royal Academy. CONDITION REPORT: Canvas relined with signs of scattered retouching, most notably to the hand & clothing and very minor areas of loss to the face (see images). Otherwise in good stable condition, would benefit from a clean.
