Nadezhda, "Lute communion (Xavier Diaz-Latorre)", unframed acrylic and pure silk thread on canvas, 2020, 35 x 35cm. One of my greatest inspirations is to paint musicians in the act of playing music. I came across this Spanish lute player on YouTube and was completely enchanted by his acute sensitivity in expressing the music of Bach. He connects so deeply with the music he plays, it seems to me that he and the instrument become one. I created a video of the creation of this painting on YouTube and contacted Xavier Diaz-Latorre who kindly gave me permission to use his recording as the soundtrack. He is very touched that I have created a painting inspired by him. Located in Exeter, UK delivery £30.
Nadezhda, "Mandolino Napolitano", unframed acrylic on canvas, 2020, 14 x 14cm. During the 2020 lockdown I created a series of paintings of musicians in the act of playing music. I am very inspired by observing the mastery of musicians and how their chosen instrument seems to become a part of them. Having lived in Italy, I remain passionate about their culture. I am charmed by Italian faces and I was particularly taken by the mandolin player for his heavily hooded eyes and what I think is a typical Italian facial expression. I have made a little video of the creative process of this painting. Located in Exeter, UK delivery £15.
O Yemi Tubi, "Cellist : Let the Music", unframed oil on canvas, 2021, 30 x 20in. “Is anyone among you in trouble? Let them pray. Is anyone happy? Let them sing songs of praise.” James 5 verse 13 Visual artists and artists in entertainment industry were some of the people that their lives and livelihoods were affected negatively by the lockdown caused by the prevailing pandemic. The coronavirus outbreak has caused mass cancellations of visual artists’ exhibitions; tours, concerts, and festivals of performing artists were cancelled. Some freelance artists in entertainment industry lost their jobs and are looking for jobs in other industries. Some courageous musicians gave free concerts in their communities and neighbourhoods to lift the spirits of people that were cast down. The reaching out to the communities with free concerts is what influenced this work – CELLIST: Let the Music Play. With my unique style, I made the lady playing cello as Flower and Thorns to depicts the music as flower and thorns as unpleasant situations like the pandemic. The message of the work is Roses grow in the midst of thorns; regardless of the situation, Let the Music Play. Shipping UK charge £35.
