A French Empire mantel clock, the 10 cm diameter dial signed LS. Mallet and H. DE M. D. D'ORLEANS, N 794, with Roman numeral, fitted an eight day movement striking on a bell, in an ormolu case, the base surmounted a female figure holding a mask and playing a tambourine, the clock surmounted a winged helmet and musical instruments, the base decorated a facemask and foliage on a plinth, 31 cm wide See illustration Condition report Report by GHSome damage to the enamel around the right hand winder. Enamel also scratched across the middle and with a small hairline crack to the top left. Otherwise case generally a little grubby but in good condition.Movement untested but appears to be in good, clean condition and appears complete. No key. Measurement across the dial including the bezel is 13 cm.

Japanese Meiji period carved ivory sectional okimono figure group of a man playing a drum and a further musician with incised inked detailed decoration, and signature underneath the shaped naturalistic base, height 13.5cm (af), on associated wooden plinth. CONDITION REPORT: Blown instrument is missing from hands of the other standing musician, general surface dirt commensurate with age and some natural splits to ivory, also the figure of standing musician is a little unstable and so is the drum.
A Royal Doulton series ware in blue and white depicting two small girls playing in the woodland scene, a Doulton Lambeth ware baluster vase, a Doulton Lambeth jug, a Minton fruit bowl (af) and a Royal Crown Derby lidded trinket box (5). CONDITION REPORT: Minton bowl has a restoration to top rim in one area and large hairline from top of the bowl to centre. The Doulton vase is 25.5cm high. otherwise in good condition.

Pre-Columbian, West Mexico, Nayarit, San Sebastian Red type, ca. 300 BCE to 300 CE. An emaciated, hunchbacked mourner figure, sitting with spinal column and ribcage visible beneath his striated (tattoos or body paint) skin, his legs folded, playing an animal-headed percussive instrument with both hands, his expressive visage comprised of coffee-bean shaped eyes, pronounced nose, and open mouth, indicative of prayer, chanting, or singing, with incised marks representing pocks or facial hair upon the jowels. Size: 3.875" W x 5.5" H (9.8 cm x 14 cm)The figure is nude, except for a headband, armbands, ear and nose ornaments, this nudity serving to emphasize his physiognomy, that of an emaciated mourner figure with delineated genitalia and a hunchback. In the Pre-Columbian world, hunchbacks were regarded as important figures as their deformities were interpreted as signs that these people were among the chosen few who were touched by the deities and could communicate with the celestial and ancestral realm. A dramatic and meaningful example from this shaft-tomb culture of West Mexico in marvelous condition with so many finely painted details remaining. Provenance: Ex-Dr. G.
