IN THE MANNER OF SIR DAVID WILKIE R.A. (1785-1841); oil on canvas, gentlemen playing cards in a parlour with a small child watching and a woman serving drinks, with descriptive label verso signed by Ann A Fuge, Earls Acre, Plymouth, 24th January 1891, "This picture painted by Sir David Wilkie ... when the artist stayed at Plymouth ... It represents Swain J Simpson, John Hele Fuge and a gardener Phillips with his wife and child", 39 x 32cm, framed. CONDITION REPORT: There has been restoration and patching to the centre of the painting a third of the way down, crazing to the picture with extensive varnish loss, some paint loss to the edges of the painting, cracking to the frame, chips to the moulding and wear to the name plaque.

Ripetizione a ore e quarti su gong attivabile tramite il pendente, carillon a pettine e disco al passaggio e richiesta tramite leva posta sulla carrure, leva del silenzio sul bordo della cuvette e sotto al fondello. Diametro Ø: 60 mm - SWISS KEY-WINDING POCKET WATCH, MUSICAL AND QUARTER REPEATER, 1820 Four body “Empire” gold case, flutted bezels, reeded band and engine turned back, hinged gilt dome. Circular pendant and oval bow. White enamel dial, Roman hour numerals and outer minutes track. Gilt Breguet hands. Anonymous going barrel movement, lever escapement, three-armed brass annular balance, flat hairspring. Quarter repeater on gong by depressing the pendant, music pinned disc and teeth playing on the hour and on demand by lever sets in the band, silence lever at the edge of the cuvette beneath the back cover. A 1950's autographed black and white photograph of Elizabeth Taylor, 10ins x 8ins, framed and glazed Provenance: Given to the vendors parents circa 1955 in a pub in the Dulwich area. Elizabeth Taylor and Richard Burton had apparently asked their driver to take them to a quiet public house to escape the attention of reporters. Whilst Richard Burton was playing a game of darts, Elizabeth Taylor walked over to the vendors parents explaining their reasons for being there and offered this black and white photograph.

Philippe Bordes, Professeur d'histoire de l'art moderne à l'Université Lyon 2 d'avoir identifié le dessin à Jean Démosthène Dugourc. Documentation: « Dugourc (Jean-Démosthène Dugourc, né en selon Basan, (à Versailles, dit Brulliot), élève de Saint-Aubin.) s’était fait connaître avant la Révolution par une grande gravure au burin, la Prière à Vénus, d’après Netscher, et par dessins de sujets de galanterie, de costume, et même des portraits, fournis à des graveurs, plus habiles que lui à polir leur ouvrage, Trière, Lebeau, Elluin, Ingouf, A. –F. David. Il avait essayé de nouveaux procédés dans la gravure des ornements, et ces pièces, les plus intéressantes à rappeler pour l’histoire de la gravure, fournissent l’indice le plus sûr du talent véritable de Dugourc, comme dessinateur et graveur.(…) Dugourc se distingua dans la fabrication des cartes républicaines.Les figures des cartes de Dugourc, composées de quatre Génies : de la Guerre, du Commerce, de la Paix et des Arts ; de quatre Libertés : des Cultes, des Professions, du Mariage et de la Presse, et de quatre Egalités : de Devoirs, de Couleur, de Droits et de Rangs, sont dessinées avec tant de fierté qu’elles ont été généralement attribuées à David.(Henri Saint-Simon aurait été le créateur de ces cartes et le propriétaire du brevet en indivis avec les citoyens Jaume et Dugourc : Nouvelles cartes à jouer de la République française, de l’Imprimerie des nouvelles cartes, rue Saint-Nicaise).(…) Après cette heureuse excursion dans le domaine de la gravure en bois, Dugourc fournit des sujets dessinés à des graveurs de vignettes :Les Contes de la Fontaine, éd. Didot in-12, 1795 ;Buste, médaillon et tombeau de Marie-Elisabeth Joly, actrice du Théâtre-Français. Trois pièces in-18 gravées par Fortier.Il dessina et grava, avec Berthault, un Temple égyptien, in-f°1., lavis bistré : J.- Dugourc ; Dugourc et Berthault sculp.Il tomba ensuite dans l’illustration de la poésie de l’Empire : le Temple des Souvenirs, - Mespauvres petits agneaux,- Venez, venet, mes chers moutons,- et dans les vignettes des Incas, d’Atala, etc., gravées par des pointilleurs qui font de ses dessins des images ; mais la solidité de ses figures s’y fait encore reconnaître.
