A Chinese blue and white double gourd vase, late 19th century, painted with females playing Go within a garden surrounding, four character Kangxi mark, 26.5 cm high. CONDITION REPORT: There are some small pin head and smaller sized fritting to the rim (approximately 5). There is a small glaze chip to the top of the rim. There is a very fine 6 cm long hairline crack within the glaze which is not instantly visible. Otherwise the remainder of the body appears to be in good order with no further cracks, chips or flaws visible.
A pair of Chinese porcelain garden seats, circa 1880, each top inset with pierced cash and quatreform panels of females, the main body decorated with female figures reading, playing Go and playing musical instruments, with pierced cash symbols tied with ribbons, peaches, bats and insects between flowering lotus and double shou borders. Height 49.5 cm (see illustration). CONDITION REPORT: One seat has a large repaired crack running from one side across to its opposing side. The crack starts approximately 11 cm from the bottom and goes in an arch terminating 10 cm from the top. There are interesting rectangular plates on the interior holding it together. The bolt heads are visible either side of the crack. There are six rectangular plaques all told. The seat enamels are rubbed and faded but the decoration can still be easily made out. On the porcelain rivet heads around the body again the colours are faded and one is missing at the top where the crack goes through. The decoration to the body is slightly faded but generally good. The second seat has a similar issue with the top being faded and worn. This also has a large crack with a more traditional rivet repair. There are 14 rivets and a further rivet hole which is vacant. The crack is an undulating crack starting at the far right of one figural panel travelling downwards and left underneath the figures rising through the banana leaf to the top of the Shou just below the seat rim and travelling downwards again through to the right of the circular panel travelling beneath the pierced Cache symbol and terminating at a junction where it crosses itself just below a rivet. The colours on the body are good. The porcelain rivet heads similar to the previous seat are again faded and rubbed. The enamels appear to be in good order with no major issues. The restoration appears to have been done many years ago. There are no signs of any recent restorations.
