Marcel Breuer for Isokon; a rare maple plywood chaise longue, retailed by Heal & Son Ltd, with Heals ivorine label, 59cm wide x 84cm high x 137cm long. Illustrated.Provenance;Property from the collection of the late Prudence and Marius Goring, CBE. "He was a wonderful man, totally stimulating, and I was very happy to be married to him" said his wife Prudence FitzGerald following his death in 1998.The actor Marius Goring had a long and distinguished career, possibly best remembered for his screen appearance as the wonderfully quizzical, humorous dandy who was executed during the French revolution but returns to claim for Heaven, David Niven's pilot who has overstayed his time on earth in Michael Powell and Emeric Pressburger's 'A Matter of Life and Death'. With his suave, continental looks, Goring was assumed to be foreign, but was born in Newport, Isle of Wight, in 1912. Educated at Cambridge and at the universities of Frankfurt, Munich, Vienna and Paris, Goring was set on a stage career while in his early teens. His professional debut was in 1927, and he toured the continent playing classical roles - before joining the Old Vic in 1932. Powell cast him in one of his first important film roles, 'The Spy in Black', 1939, as the young U-boat captain Schuster, an absorbing espionage thriller. The director later wrote of Goring's "intelligence and impudent charm". Other roles followed and in 1948 he appeared in one of his personal favourites 'The Red Shoes'.Goring's prime love remained the stage. "I can't say I think much of my later films…I never envisaged myself as a film actor, preferring the theatre." He also appeared on TV, in the Expert, where he met his wife Prudence, who was its director. Her move now from Durrants, a yeoman's house in East Sussex, brought these pieces to auction.

The following collection of signed sporting items were amassed by the late Hazel Coates. Hazel was a devoted Manchester United fan who represented Manchester United Ladies as a player, but she appreciated all football regardless of her loyalties, especially the social side of the club. After a severe knee injury stopped her playing, and with increasing ill health, she became quite reclusive and spent more and more time watching football on television, as well as contacting clubs and players at home and abroad. She was on first name terms with administration staff at many of them, and knew most of the staff at Old Trafford. All these signed items were personally obtained by Hazel either directly from the clubs and players or from reputable websites noted on the certificates. Sadly, Hazel died in August 2018 leading to her extensive collection coming to market.ERIC CANTONA; a pair of signed children's football boots (both signed).
